Not only am I not patient enough to build a fancy-nice looking sim-pit...I don't have the money. A cheap one works quite nicely though!
Not really fit for flying, but it works, I just have to use my right leg as a "desk" until I make something better. It was made for racing (NFS, DiRT, etc.) and works much better then using a desk chair and desk.
The Dimensions were taken from a Scion TC so every thing is darn close to how a real car would feel when sitting in one. Took about 2 days to make and cost wasn't bad (2-3 2x4s, 1 sheet of plywood and 1 Seat).

Sub-Woofer, behind the seat...creates one heck of a kick right there.

And Finally computer, The desk it sits on is actually attached to the "pit" because when driving the Pit would fall forwards.

Overall, it's quite comfortable and very sturdy...I'm happy with it. :D
Anyone else gotten too much into games and built a Pit? I know Fugitive has one, was looking at his at the time I decided to build one....his puts mine to shame. :P

I built something very similar...but it's specifically for cyber sex.
seriously though........I totally DIG that set-up....I bet it's a blast.....and sounds great.
ps- add a hinged fold-down desk to that right wall and say goodbye to the lap-desk
-
I love what youve done with the curtains as well LOL
-
WTF is up with the wheel! Please tell me you don't play this game with one!
-
you fly with a steering wheel?? :airplane:

"ps- add a hinged fold-down desk to that right wall and say goodbye to the lap-desk"
Working on that...been lazy the past few days. :) Need to make one soon, my FPS games are impossible to play like this.
Kazaa and Cap...No I don't fly with a wheel, since this was made for Driving I don't ever move the wheel (Plus it's screwed on too tight to move!). The Joystick rests on my Right leg for flying for now. Would be interesting to try wheel flying though. :P

Nice work mate - the only thing I'd suggest is extending a support from behind the chair (on that frame near the subwoofer), tied into the boards either side, then mount a couple of shelves to hold your joystick/throttle. You could always make them drop downable (ie, have a moving support below to keep them in place when needed), and no support, they lie flat to the boards when not in use.

While I marvel at ingenuity I still wonder, does your wife let you stay in the house?!
-
I would be curious to see if you could use the steering wheel for a GV...
I guess gunning might be a bit hard though...

Nice job looks very functional. You do realize that you have started down a slippery slope.
I started out much like you. I just made some minor modifications to a computer desk. That worked for a little while, but the addiction grew stronger.
Now I'm a full blown addict.
This is my pit as it sits today.

It's a thumbnail click on it to see a larger version.
Right now I have everything except the pedals positioned so that I can fly comfortably for at least an hour. Tuning for ergonomics has been a real time consumer, but I hope it will be worth it in the end.

They don't work on AH2 afaik, but fine for FSX/XP9. They're not perfect, but if you're doing a simpit on a budget it's a good option.

Well I got unlazy and finally made a Keyboard/mouse/joystick mount.
Out of the way for Racing:

Slides into place for everyday use:

My Not-So-patented way of making this work. Board just slides to the sides and it uses the little notches to keep from going to far and into my lap, and the extra weight at the right edge (3x 19" pieces of wood screwed together) to keep it from falling on me:

"You do realize that you have started down a slippery slope. "
I've been on that slope for a few years. :P
"I would be curious to see if you could use the steering wheel for a GV..."
It's possible but it's hard to get accurate aim. May just take practice, but the stick works fine for now.
Very Nice Pit Frenchy (Think I remember when ya posted it the first time), wish I had that kind of money/time. :D
