Title: Anyone use USAA?
Post by: JunkyII on February 04, 2010, 10:16:09 AM
Just wondering how people like this company. I just got off the phone with a representive and she explained everything, was really great service. I know my dad told me they are good with military/ex-military folks and so far he is right. Anyone had any problems/concerns with using them for banking/insurance/loans?

Thanks in advance :salute

I have had it for years. Have had a mortgage through them, a home owners loan, credit car, and auto insurance. They have been great on all accounts.

Plus, in regards to the credit card they are not like a bank and are not looking for any reason under the sun to jack your interest rate to 29%. I think my current is 10% on my card through them. Citibank tried to jack my rate from 12% to 29% for some BS reason but I caught the letter in the mail they sent and opted out and closed that card.

I can insure two cars with them for the price of one car with any other company. The service is top notch.

I priced them last year.  The car insurance was cheaper but the house was twice as much.  Overall, a strong reputation and good value but do some research.

Luckily the Army pays for housing :D , I have done some research with state farm and all state its about 50$ a month cheaper with USAA for me(I know it all depends on the person)

Thanks for the remarks, seems like they are very good. The rep. did tell me the more I use with them the cheaper everything will get because they like the partnership which is something I really liked.

In R/L i am a property insurance adjuster handling claims up to $450,000k, but prior to that, i worked for a company that did nothing but investigate and estimate damages and losses  for 30+ insurance companys. We would  do this for homes that had insd losses from fires, floods, hurricanes, tornados etc ). Of all the companys ive done this for, ( present employer included ) I have found USAA to be in the top 3 of companys that i would insure my home with.  Good company.

If there half as good with their auto policys as they are with there homeowners  policys, i'd say that they are a safe bet.

Fyi, look into them for insurance on your home when u and ( the future ) Mrs JunkyII decide to buy a house and squirt out the little ones.  :D

USAA is a good option for you given active duty. They are used to the different nature of active duty military.

Do not hesitate to do business with them, and then, after you are a customer, never leave.

Been with them since '88.

No complaints.

Top notch service for me over the years.

I'm glad they opened up to all veterans recently. That should make things even better.

I've been with them for 24 years, great on all accounts.  Then again I've never had to collect either.

For auto insurance they I found the beat the pants off any competetor price wise.
For credit card the rates are low.

For home insurance though, I found State Farm cheaper.

We've used them forever, so has my in-laws.  I've never had a bad experience with them.  Even their complicated tedious stuff was made easier by good customer service.

That's good for you if they treat their employees as well as their customers.

My granddaughter and step daughter co owned a car that was stolen then stripped practically to the frame. It took USAA way over 30 days to decide to total the car out and pay off. I'm having second thoughts about them myself due to their practice of dropping motorcycle coverage except in those states that require them to cover bikes as  a cost of doing business there. They never were competitive on motorcycle insurance in the 30+ years I have dealt with them.

Competitive motorcycle coverage really doesn't fit their business model.

Thirty-five year member. Once your with USAA any insurance agent that comes around trying to sell insurance will give up the minute he finds out your a member. Banking and investments and loans... why go anywhere else?

No problem with them for insurance but their rates aren't the absolute cheapest.  But the service is good in my experience.

Never used them for anything but a small home improvement loan, and that went ok.  Their rates aren't the absolute best but it was really easy to do over the phone.

Banking...  Very easy and convenient except for 2 things.  First, no physical bank locations means you will always need another local bank account to do stuff that requires a teller.  Second, USAA's savings account rates are absolutely horrible right now.  They were much better during the boom economy, but right now ING Direct, another "online" bank, has almost double the savings account interest rates.  USAA's own customer survey gives their savings accounts only 3 out of 5 stars because of the low interest rate.

Investing - Easy to do, very convenient, not quite as full-featured as maybe a schwab account would be, but USAA is very convenient.

Overall, the convenience and company quality for USAA is very good and I use them for banking, investing, and insurance.  Their insurance isn't the absolute cheapest but I have not ever had them try to cheat me or raise my rates to an unexpected level.

they tried scamming me when one of their insureds hit my dakota.(she hit my truck, then went down the road and broadsided a bmw) thankfully, geico told me exactly what they were gonna say...and what i should tell them.
i could hear the silent sigh, as their rep must've thought "dammit". then they sent out a jerkwad of an adjuster.....whom i do believe i got fired.  :devil

My wife and her family have been with USAA for many years starting in the 40's.  No business or person is perfect and in USAA's case they have always tried to correct any mistakes, problems or misunderstandings right away and without hassle. We have never had a problem that has made us want to change banks.
Case in point- Last month we refinanced our auto loan to free up some monthly cash.  The rep was supposed to call us the following day to let us know whether or not they received our signed fax.  He did not.  We called them and another rep hunted it down for us while we were on the phone then walked it through herself.  She called us back 2 hours later to let us know it was all taken care of.

They have an automated phone system like everybody else these days but they make it easy the reach a live representative (which I almost always prefer.)  They also have a very good online banking service that is pretty easy to use and is very convenient.

Their prices are not bad and their costumer service is outstanding to make up for it. :aok :aok

they tried to tell me that it was only one accident, and that her responsibility was only for 5 grand. this they said was for both cars involved....mine and the beemer.

i only had to remind them that she hit my truck, bounced off, and drove on for another 200 feet or so, and then hit the beemer......thus it was two seperate accidents, and that they could/would cover all the damages on my truck.

 they did.

now, the estimater.......e was a real piece of work......
