				That's pretty cool!

My dad joined the USN in 1940 and saw service in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during WWII. I wish he'd get involved in some of the living history projects that have been around for the last few years. I've thought about hauling a camcorder over and doing it myself. He loves to talk about his time in the Navy.

My favorite story involves him climbing into some kind of trash bin to read a discarded comic book aboard USS Flint (CLA97). While reclining in the trash the carrier Ticonderoga was about 1/4 mile away and he heard her general quarters alarm start sounding across the water. He looked up in time to see that a kamikaze at low level had slipped in undetected and impacted on the aft of the flight deck sweeping the entire flight deck with a fire ball. Dad said he never moved so fast trying to get to his battle station.
