so, what's brewing down there now? i was just on the noaa's website, and there looks to be a fairly sizable storm of some sort in eastern texas?
the one we have here in nj, came from down there........
-
Nothing bad really. It is going to be wet, but not cold enough for anything to freeze. Maybe some sleet. Temps will stay above freezing. Just going to be cold, wet, and nasty.
-
There was a huge storm that was supposed to hit us last night/this morning and it literally disintegrated right before it got to my city...:furious
Hope it is nice weather in TX next week, I'll be inside a lot but hey...good weather is ALWAYS better than NY.

Couldn't help from singing this when I read the subject.

Have not had my truck washed in a couple of weeks. Rain pattern is sporatic in winter.

I think it's gonna snow and freeze here in Wichita Falls.

Have my fingers crossed.
Actually tomorrow night is looking worse according to NOAA.

Same here. I'm 1/2 way between you and DFW.
But, I haven't trusted a weatherman since Harold Taft died.

Here in MS we have a 50-80% chance of snow thursday and friday :aok I HATE hot, I can't do over 70 degrees! But I can stand in 20 degree weather with shorts.... :noid

see.......the cold doesn't bother me so much, if i manage to keep busy...........if not, below 60 is cold to me.
gimme 90F, and although it may slow me down, and make me somewhat iritable, i love it..........can deal with it all week long.....it gets to over 100 in the shop, and as long as i have water to drink, i'm fine. :aok

Just make your own forecast with surface observations, jet-stream patterns, dew point, temperature, and pressure. If you have a good eye, trending the information will generally give you a quick glance at what will happen next.

You and I are now under a Winter Storm Warning with up to 8 inches possible. "Possible" being key, never trust the weather talking heads.
:salute Harold Taft

Yep, they lied to us again. Right now it is 32F in Grapevine, there is white stuff on the ground, and the streets look wet, not frozen.
-
The leading edge of the storm just hit Wichita Falls just a few minutes ago, but it's still a bit too warm for it to stick. The temps are supposed to drop all day though, so I think by early afternoon we'll see buildups on the street in addition to snow/ice on the grass and other unpaved areas.
The national weather service says 2-4 inch accumulations possible, which is up from 1-2 inches expected as of last night. Temps are higher than forecast right now but I guess there is also more precip than expected.
I'm already told to hold off on going to work until at least 8am, but I think the roads will be nasty by the time I need to leave home to go to work so I'll probably end up staying home. No gaming for me today though... my 23 month old boy and 2 month old girl are both pretty high maintenance so I won't get any breaks today.
-

They always do. If I had it to do over again I would definitely be a weatherman. I mean "meteorologist". No accountability!!
I don't quite have the hair for it though.
-
Then just do stock analysis. Same job, no camera's.
-
I'm kind of vain and want the attention. :D

It's still snowing
:(
Hopefully it will be gone be the start of next week..

Of course it will be gone, it's North Texas!! :D
We'll have tornados on Monday :aok

careful. often, when the roads look just wet, there is a layer of ice under the water.........
that being said.....i wish i could get paid for being wrong so often... :rofl :noid

Its snowing :noid :noid

Not cold enough to be icy. I drove to work without any slippage at all and that includes one long overpass which would have been blocked with piles of vehicles if there had been (always is, they never learn) icy conditions.
Around here the most likely vehicles to be seen stuck or wrecked are Jeeps and any other 4 wheel drive vehicle. The drivers seem to think they are impervious to ice because they can spin all 4 wheels at one time. Go figure.
It is barely hanging at 32F. Later this afternoon/evening is when the trouble will begin.
-
We have a lot of snow accumulation even on the roads up here, although the temps are 33-32F. It's just falling fairly heavily. The weather warning has been updated, predicting 5-8 inches of accumulation. That's up from 1-2 inches predicted last night...
I'm just sitting at home wishing I had managed to get to the grocery store one more time. We're not out of anything except cereal and lunch meat, but it would have been nice to restock. No way in heck I'm gonna drive in this stuff.
One of my students managed to make it into work this morning... He lives on base and only has a 2 mile "commute", and it took him almost 30 minutes to make it that 2 miles.
-
And it continues to snow..

the big thing that people with 4 wheel drive vehicles(jeeps too) forget, is that if their stuff is stock, it's most likely only 2 wheel drive. both differentials(unless optional diffs are or installed) are open on most factory 4x4's. this means, that only one tire from each one gets the power.
it's still better than only a rear drive vehicle.......but it's not true 4x4 either.
the other thing they forget, is that although they're doing great, moving at a somewhat higher speed, going straight.....sooner or later, they have to turn or stop...and that's when a lot of them get themselves into trouble too.
you'd think in nj where we get snow pretty often, they'd learn..but like you noted, they never do.
-
About 6 inches on the ground here so far.
-
They never closed Sheppard AFB, still reporting the roads open... That must be a surprise to the people in all the car wrecks. The ambulance dispatch down the road has been active all morning, listening to the sirens running up and down the highway nearly continuously since 8am.
A lot of people went in to work on base at 7am before the snow hit, and they weren't released until it had been snowing in town for quite some time. If I was on base now, I'd be heading to billeting to get a room instead of driving home.

i don't know about the air force side of it, but as for civil air patrol(our wing hq is on mcguire afb) we closed the wing hq.
-
Maybe we closed our wing HQ too, and that's why nobody updated the website with road/base closures or work release updates.
All I know is that if I had followed the rules instead of using a little common sense, I'd be stuck up on base right now. I got no phone call and the website still says it's ok to drive around town and on base, but right now I wouldn't be able to make my car go 10 ft up the street if my life depended on it.
-
I just drove home for lunch and back to work. Looks to be about 8 inches in the front yard of the house. I am more concerned with the buildup on the roof of the house. It is at 5 inches at the moment and the snow is coming down harder.
Anyway, the roads seem fine. Full of slush, but no ice yet in my path. The residential streets are getting a hefty buildup of snow on them though. I felt like a little snow plow as I pushed through it all.
-
It'll probably ice up tonight. Hopefully it'll warm up fast tomorrow.
-
Tonight is definitely going to be bad around here.
-
It's still snowing
:(
Hopefully it will be gone be the start of next week..
The weather report says it. Hope so...looks like it'll get into the 50s by monday...I'll try not to bring the cold from NY :)
-
Crap if this continues they might have to cancel the NBA allstar game..
:cry
-
probably best for you guys to head home before sun goes down.....it freezes almost instantly around here,,,,,,and the number of people that've never had bad weather driving experience, makes it even worse.....
-
And it begins. It is now melting faster than it is falling, but that means the roads are going to get slick with ice, really fast once the Sun goes down.

DANGIT I WANT MY SHARE ALREADY! YOU PEOPLE IN TEXAS AND LA ARE GONNA USE IT ALL UP BEFORE IT GETS HERE JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER TIME THIS YEAR! You get 6-8 inches, we only get about half an inch left over. and you guys don't even like it! Jealous as I am, I hope all of you are managing to stay safe in this, you guys have to worry about more than "who all am I gonna call for the uber snow fight" :devil

we got 5" of rain today here in new braunfels, was below 40 degrees all day

You and me both. I couldn't get my truck up the drive and it's stuck down by the gate. Hopefully it will melt off enough by noon that I can get it out and go to work.
-
I hate to say it but it is raining here in the Deep south Texas, and it is abotu 65 degrees but at least I dont have to deal with White crap.
-
There's nothing quite like a mouth full of gorgeous, fluffy, frozen, yellow precipitation.... Wait, what?
-
Well, I am snow bound this morning. No way am I trying to get out until some of this melts off. Last night the Wife could not get her Lexus into the garage. I had to go out and put planks down in order to coerce the car up the driveway and into the garage.
I opened the garage door this morning and there is about a foot of ice/snow on the driveway. I walked on it and did not mash it down at all. No footprints. It is a solid sheet of ice. Looks to be about 2 to 3 inches thick on top of the snow with about an inch of ice for a base.
It's going to be a while before this melts off.

Ouch. I've seen a lot of crazy stuff but never something like that happening over night!
-
I have seen this before, but not to the extent it is right now. Overnight temps fluctuated between 29 and 33F, all the while it was snowing. Sort of like occasionally spritzing the snow with a little water. Slowly, it builds a loose ice pack on top of the snow. Gets thick enough it will support a lot of weight.
It is 30F right now and expected highs are 36F, with clouds hanging around all day.

i've seen that happen here in jersey....it sucks, because it's hard as hell to shovel, and when you get all the snow outta your way, ya still can't go anywhere because of the ice.......
-
Well, I got outside to the guage and we got 15.5 inches of snow in the last 24 hours. It shows. Cleared the DiSH antennae so we could see what was happening around the area. Not pretty.
Now the knuckle heads at the weather are reporting we are in for frozen fog this evening. I would much rather have snow.
Skuzzy is now a fully qualified weatherman! :D
That would be a great gig! Let's see, what do I want to tell them today? It does not matter as I am not going to be held accountable for it. I know! Today it is going to be gloppy with a chance of wingdings and then possibly, later on in the day, more blurps. Have a nice day!

NOAA is the one to use. The weather shows are just that.... shows for entertainment.
My youngest Daughter is at A&M taking Meteorology right now. She will be looking at working for Shell, Exxon, or the like. That is where the money is for weather types.

I'm in nashville working. Came up during that snow storm they had 2 weeks ago. I counted 12 cars off the road in a 2 mile span. The funny part is, Monteagle Tn is on top of a mountain and it was nasty up there but everyone was driving around like nothing was going on. I got to murfreesboro where my girlfriend lives and these people was blithering idiots. Now i have to head back to ATL in the morning, and they're suppose to get 3in. This should be fun to watch :devil
Watching southerners hear about snow is like watching the DEA raid a crack house. Its funny watching them panic but you know something bad is about to happen. They go crazy.
