I want one of these, I know it is slow, and a turbo prop, but a 10 hour loiter time. The Maintance would be cheap adn it would be relitavely cheap to operate.
Check it out http://802u.com/
Oh yea they are built in Texas.

It's a bloody Pawnee on steroids!
-
True , but did you look at the Load out? It is a gunship. It is not my dads Airtractor.
-

Cool! Didn't realize that airtractor had converted one of their ag plane into a gunship.
-
Neither did I, It is a sexy beast though.

For some reason, it puts me in mind of an Il-2.

I saw a photo of an Airtratcor skiing along the surface of a dam when I was out west in the cotton growing districts about 15 years ago. I tried googleing it after seeing this article and dont seem to find anything on the net. By skiing I mean he was full throttle skiing his wheels across the surface of a massive dam. If anyone else has seen this photo or has a copy please post it.

If they really want to sell it as a combat aircraft, they need to slap a camo paint job on it. :rock
-
Very versatile aircraft - Destroy barnyard animals while cropdusting
-
Well, at least there's no question about the plane's ability to support chemical warfare.
-
Wow! Nice recycling of an agricultural aircraft!! :D Well, I think it's use can be called pest control aswell! :D
8000lbs payload!! :O That's impressive!
Poor man's A-10 for the South Americans I presume. :)

Wild Boar population in texas better watch out.

First to take off from dirt road??rough terrain, didnt all aircraft do that at the beginning? lol :noid :x
:cheers:MajChaos

It seems like a single engine plane flying in this role would be very susceptible to small arms fire.
-
I'll take 2 please!! :airplane:

That design has been flying for Years. It was designed by Lelland Snow who built the first Ag Plane. IT was called the 'Snow", it was a great flying plane, then he helped design the AgCat. THe Agcat is still in use today. The Agcat had some advantages on the Ag Tractor, The Cat, when it came off the ground it was ready to go to the field and work. The early Ag Tractors had to fly around for a bit before it was ready to work. With the introduction of the light weight Turbo prop engines that was over come. Then the problem became getting the Tractor slowed down to get it turned around and back into the field. When an ag plane is turning around it isnt making any money. The agtractor is a very robust bird. I have seen some NASTY crashes and the pilot will walk away most of the time. I want one or two.

Yep, AirTractor, Inc. http://www.airtractor.com/ (http://www.airtractor.com/)
I worked at a full service Ag retailer and we have used both helicopters and planes for application of fungicide. Both had their advantages, the helicopter was on the back of a gooseneck trailer and all we had to do was load up their poly tank with water and chemicals and one guy would park on the side of the road while the helicopter went and took care of things. If he had a question he would often come land right by our plant in a small lot and walk over to ask. Last year we used two airtractors, so we were stuck at the airport (but hell, I didn't mind at all). I would fill an aircraft up, get ready for the next one, and it would be there right away. We got A LOT of acres done that morning.
