Title: T-34/57mm; model 1941: EW monster!
Post by: vonKrimm on February 12, 2010, 12:06:10 PM
Yes, that is correct, I am wishing for another T-34 variant.  This one with the 57mm ZiS-4 gun.  Why a 57mm gun you ask?  Well, because it is a MORE POWERFUL anti-tank gun than the 76mm f-34 currently carried by our T-34/76mm, plus it would fire faster; the trade-off is that it would be sub-par as a building killer as the HE rounds were historically abominable in reliability & explosive power.  This would give EW a perkable tank (small perk) without requiring a huge remodel (easier than the P-47M), much less a whole new tank creation.  Yes, it would be available in EW arena as during the Battle of Moscow (Oct. '41-Jan. '42) as on 10 Oct. '41 the 21st Tank Brigade, including 10 T-34 57s, destroyed a German motorized column 3km in length during the Kalinin raid, knocking out 34 German tanks, 31 artillery pieces, and 210 trucks. A known T-34/57mm casualty was a M. Lukin (posthumously awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union) of the 21st Tank Brigade, he was killed when his T-34 57 was knocked out.

What would it take to create one?  A longer and skinnier barrel, that is all!!!!!

If anyone has a good source or links about the T-34/57, could you post them?  All I have is a couple of photocopied pages from an unknow book that are about 10-15 years old that I found in a box of my wargaming stuff last night.

Only very few T-34/57 were build, and did see only very limited action for a short time. It's an extremely rare variant, and I would rather like to see some more standard GV's

1st: Thanks for the link, especially as it has actual pictures of topic of this post.

2nd: I agree that more common GVs would be great to add to AH.  I was thinking that since some time has lapsed since the last new GV, maybe a "crust of bread" for the masses would be in order.  Keep us plebeians from rising in revolt until WWI comes out.  :x

The T34-76 really sucks for tank battles. We could definitely use another tank in that arena  :rock

well if not put in the T34/57... why not put in the KV-1? i love what that tank has done... heard a story, dont remember where but one KV-1 in the early part of the eastern front defended a town against german armor and ended up killing 22 tanks to stop the advance and allow his group to retreat safely

Would love to see this, the 57mm was a moster at armor penertation. And wasn't it just a Zis-2 instaled in the T-34 turret?

gaaagh!  Kv1 he wants; as if killing t-34s in EW isn't hard enough already.  be like two cruisers trying to kill each other with 20mm.

yes, it was a ZiS-2 they stuck in the turret, they re-named it the ZiS-4 (and later the ZiS-4m).

Would like to see the standard M4, but any non perked tank for the LW arena is welcomed

I'm not really sure what this thread is about because I can't stop staring at vonKrimm's icon of Jessica Simpson  :O

I know this topic is a bit old. But the idea is great, I'd like to see rarer vehicles in AH.

Epic win.

Would love to see this too, but problem is that even so simple an addition won't make it in till HTC finishes the WWI arena, and the other "more important" things on the list. GV'ers have to take whats left after HTC models the A/C.
