Just got puter set up in new location. I am on a cable connection with a Netgear router. On this PC I am using a Wireless N 150 USB adapter.
When I try to log in to the online arenas I immediately get a host time out message. Ideas?

Forgot to say that the cable modem is connected by ethernet.

sounds like a firewall is blocking it. you running a software firewall?

Was running Kerio on this PC, but I tried closing it and it still shows host timed out. It is immediate after clicking login.
I am running the connection off of my son in law`s set up. I guess his firewall could have it blocked for some reason. Not sure what to look for and what to allow from that end.

Firewall seems to be disabled on both router and modem . Still host time out when hittin OK to enter online arenas. Help Skuzzy?

You could try removing the Router once to see if that changes any symptoms. Your definately trying to connect to the new server too correct, in other words using a very current version of Aces High.

It was current a week ago. It doesn`t try to update. Just goes immediately to "host timed out".
If I remove the router I will not have any connection.

I would run pingplotter to see if your getting to the servers or not.
As for the suggestion above, by-pass the router if its possible. Connect the modem directly into your computer. It will test whether or not its the router that is giving you the trouble.
Trying to run the game on a wireless set-up is going to give you all kinds of trouble. It's almost as bad as trying to run on a satellite set-up.

Nothing even comes close to the annoyance of satellite, not even wireless. :P

Yeah, I emailed yesterday and have had this up for a while. Nothing. trying to work it out ourselves.
At the moment by passing the router is not an option.
I need the IP for the online arena server in order to make sure ports 2000-6000 are open. I`m sure it is here somewhere , but can`t find it in the jungle. Anyone know it offhand?

The initial connection is cable. Just using wireless adapter to get to my PC.
Actually there is no way to bypass the router. It has to go through the router no matter whether hardwired or not.

From the ones I've seen the cable connects to the modem, then a cat5 cable is used to connect to the router, then other cat5 cables connect to the computers. The cat5 cable that connect to the router from the modem can be connected directly to the computer to test your connection.

Those are "snap shots" of your connection. Thats why ping plotter is a good program. You can set it up to run a ping a second for 10 minutes and have a better over all picture of how your connection is running.

Yeah...it`s getting to the server fine. Just can`t get in for some reason. <shrug>

If you cannot get passed the login, then there is either a firewall preventing the game from connecting to the authentication server, or your ISP has chosen to block the port we use for authentication.
You get to the bulletin board just fine. Can I assume you get to our home WEB page? If so, the only difference between the home WEB page address and the authentication server is the port number.

Yeah, I am getting to the web page just fine. We have tried disabling both the router and modem firewalls with no luck. Don`t see how it could be the ISP. As I have stated, I can log into my account and get to the online arenas just fine using my son in law`s computer which uses the same cable connection. Anything in particular that I should look for on settings? One thought I had and a question. Could it possibly have something to do with changing the connection I use since the move? What I mean is there some way that it is still recognizing the old connection on this PC causing the prob? <shrug>
I don`t suppose sending a dxdiag in this case would help in any way would it?

DXDIAG will not be helpful and the game does not care what computer it is logging in from. Something is blocking the game on that computer. anti-xxx software? Some other networking type software?

OK. I didn`t think it would help, but what do I know. :)
What has me puzzled is that nothing has changed on this PC but the connection. It is the same as it has been before the move. I have shut down the personal firewall on this PC as usual along with the AV program. I am at a total loss. A real head scratcher. Seems like it has to be either something from the router or modem, but we just can`t seem to locate it.

OK...as a test just to be certain, I completely uninstalled Avira AV and tried connecting to the online arenas. Got the instant "Host time out". I then uninstalled my personal firewall and tried again. Same results.

Was as simple as changing USB ports on the adapter. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!

What adapter? Please do not tell me you are using a USB connected modem for your broadband connection?

Your using a wireless USB adapter on a PC? That (from my experience anyway) can cause odd problems. Any chance you could use a PCI wireless adapter? They seem to be a bit more stable.
That being said though, the only time I use wireless is on my laptop and it has built in wireless. So, I will be quiet and let someone with more knowledge about wireless being used on desktops. :)

Skuzzy, I thought the same thing at first. But, after re-reading the posts it seems the modem itself is connected with cat 5, and the adapter mentioned is a wireless USB one thats hooked up to his desktop.
See my previous post skuzz. Any truth to what ive seen from my experiences there?

Let's see how bad we can make this connection.
Take a bus (USB), which is dumb as a lobotimized frog, and hook a high bandwidth wireless adapter to it, which will have bit errors in the stream anyway. And what do you get? I do not know, but I know what you will not get! A reliable connetion!

Anywhoo, got it figured out (which beat what anyone thought of on two boards) and tried it for a while. Flatline all the way across. Guess we will see. I know numerous people who are running the exact same set up with no probs. Time will tell and sure as hell beats spending three days scratching various parts of the bod. The old skin gets irritated easier these days.
