Title: Hollywood's Greatest Misfires
Post by: Saxman on February 13, 2010, 12:12:45 PM
Let's hear your opinions: What do you think is the movie that most went wrong?

I would have to say of everything I've seen, no movie in history had so much potential yet failed so spectacularly as Wolverine.

What sucks most about it was that there's a VERY good movie in there that was screaming to get out. For what they had to work with the actors were great. I've always said that Hugh Jackman was just the PERFECT Wolverine, and Schreiber was about 1000 times better than the guy they had playing Sabertooth in the original X-Men movie. Gambit was just plain fun to watch, and Ryan Reynolds was hilarious as Wade Wilson (can't wait for Deadpool, which is SUPPOSED to be much closer to the actual character than he was in Wolverine. Right down to his personal mission to utterly destroy the Fourth Wall).

The problem was they so badly mangled the execution of the story. I mostly wish they hadn't tried to tie it in so closely to the X-Men trilogy, especially after how HORRIBLY wrong it went in X3 (someone PLEASE bring back Bryan Singer!). But also, how the hell do you make a movie about one of the most pissed off superheroes in history so DULL. Wolverine is supposed to be a big ball of adamantium rage, but in the movie he did a lot more brooding than snarling. Batman broods. They also tried to tie him in too closely to some of the other mutants that he shouldn't have been part of (seriously, how could the mutants he rescued NOT tell Xavier about the hairy guy with the metal claws) and many of those mutants weren't true to their origins (where's Emma Frost's telepathy? And why did they make her into Silverfox's sister?) And WTF was with the adamantium bullet?!

Jackman is supposedly doing a second Wolverine set during his time in Japan. Here's hoping they do a MUCH better job this time.

I didnt think wolverine was all that awful, I found it some what entertaining. But my standards are fairly low. :)

Ryan Reynolds character was the guy with the swords right? Pearl Harbor was just terrible, havent seen Avatar but its not really my kind of movie.

Was it Affleck or Damon that Trey and Matt were making fun of in that team america song? Something like, "I need you like X needs acting classes."

Affleck.  I also like the props they give Cuba Gooding Junior, who is indeed a good actor.  That's a great song.

Terminator 3 & 4, but especially 3, way to much humor in it, it ruined the movie.

Starship troopers by Heinlein, they butchered him.

Now if they'd shot Pearl Harbor in Alaska, that would perhaps be close.

Just thought of one. Die Hard 4 (live free or die hard) the actual movie wasnt bad, but they really screwed the pooch when they decided to make it PG-13.

Luckily for them they made an un-rated version.

The Quick and the Dead.

How can you go wrong with Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe, Sharon Stone, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Gary Sinise?

I don't remember Gary Sinise in that one (love him and his attitude toward our military men and women), but admittedly, it is the kind of film that I go to great lengths never ever to watch more then once.

Godfather III

just horrible......absolutely horrible.

all copies should be destroyed by the "because it's right" police.

Godfather 2 is arguably the best motion picture ever made.....because it takes into it...the original..and goes back farther than the original. to follow that wonderful film up with G3... a sin.

Pearl Harbour and Starship troopers 2 and 3.

The first Starship Troopers was an epic movie but when they cut the budget in number 2 and 3 the films were not as epic.

All but the first batman

Waterworld

Perl harbor

all but the first MATRIX (the rest just got a bit absurd, story line got soft and it became all about overextended over the top fight scened 1 vs 1000 etc).. i never saw a movie where I wished the action "sequence" would end..

You're not the only one who thinks it. :D

Simmons: "Wait, so what was missing in The Matrix?"
Doughnut: "Sunlight"
Grif: "I thought the missing element was plot"
Doughnut: "I'm talking about the first Matrix"
Simmons: "oh"

That scene could be titled "A Lone Fighter Pilot Ups to Defend a Remote Base"  :airplane:

The only reason to see the lame Matrix sequels:

I like the first one, but haven't seen 2 or 3.  It looked like none of the orignal actors from the first film reprised their roles so I didn't bother with the sequels.

It was a shameful movie, the book was way better.

IIRC he was the Marshal.   I could be wrong though.
