Evidently I can't spell tonight. Banshee!

I love them! They are my favorite duck, and in my opinion the prettiest!
This is the second band I had ever killed, and, ironically, it was on a drake pintail just like the first one. Killed Jan. 1, 2009. Certificate on the band says "Banded in 1999 or earlier."

Same day. Me on the left. We limited out in about 30 minutes. Took us longer to get in/out of the blind than it did to kill them.

Here's a limit from Jan. 21st of this year, plus the band we killed on that hunt.

Out of curiosity, what calls do you have there? Some of those look familiar.
-
I'm curious about the bandings. I've never gotten too involved in duck hunting, so I'm interested to learn about the bands. Who bands the birds? Is there someone you send or report the band to when you bag one of the banded birds?

WTG on you kills.

The birds are banded up North by several different people as part of the North American Bird Banding Program. Basically, when you kill a bird that is banded, you call 1-800-327-BAND and they give you a questionnaire consisting of bird species, sex, location found, status of bird when found (in case you just happen to find them :/). You give them the #s that's on the band, and they trace it back to where it was banded, when, and by whom. Once they attain all of this information they send you a certificate telling you all of the above information.
Basically, what the whole program is for is to monitor populations, setting hunting regulations, restoring endangered species, studying effects of environmental contaminants, and addressing such issues as Lyme Disease, bird hazards at airports, and crop depredations (Yes, all of this stuff came off of the certificate I'm looking at lol).
It's a pretty neat deal. Sometimes you get lucky enough and kill a duck that has a reward band on it, which is an extra band on the other leg that is usually work some cash.

Here's a good read that describes everything.

Well the calls are:
Foiles Timber Rattler (acrylic)
Gadus Acrylic mallard call
Wood Duck call. It just stays on the lanyard no matter the time of year. made by Buck Gardner
Primos Teal,Widgeon,Pintail whistle.
Mick Lacy goose flute.
This past season was very bad. Once the local ducks got shot at two weekends in a row they wised up fast. Then we had warmer the normal weather which kept the northern ducks in Canada longer than normal. Of course once the nasty weather hit our season was closed and by the time it opened again2nd half split) most boat launches were frozen solid so we were forced to do walk in hunts.
-
I thought I saw a Buck Gardner on there. My family knows him personally, but I've never met the guy :/. I'm a big Primos fan myself. What stays on my lanyard is the Primos DU Limited edition Original Wench (the white one), Primos Bois D'Arc Wench, and a Primos DU Acrylic Original Wench. I have two goose calls, but I only keep one on my lanyard, and that is some kind of Haydel Honker that I modified to sound like Specks (since we get a lot more of those than Canadas). I forgot what my other honker is.
As I was saying last night (I think you were busy and didn't see it) is that I hunt with with the Director of Licensing for Ducks Unlimited. We are supposed to get together for lunch one day to discuss business/advertising careers at DU. So, hopefully after college I will be employed by DU.

Evidently you love em SO much and find em SO pretty you feel you just have to kill them all!!!
LMAO
Just kidding.
Ducks not bad. but too oily for my tastes.
I sure wish they'd open up a goose hunting season here in NJ where they've reached the proportion of borderline health hazard.
-
That's the same thing CAP1 was saying. I wish they'd come down here where there IS a season open :t

I hunt elephants, with a hammer.

They're actually frikken protected here. You cant legally kill em cept by accident. And even then you better be careful about how accidentally you kill em.
Me personally if it comes to a choice of the goose. or slamming on my breaks causing a pile up or swerving to avoid them and running into a pole.
The goose looses. Every time.
So what if my foot accidentally slips off my break pedal....oops
A cop got in trouble a bunch of years ago for shooting one that was attacking his dog.
Mean bastages they can be too
