I would like to up my game a little more hopefully even learn some more maneuvers. I'm a decent stick but I still get my butt handed to me by about 20 sticks in the game. I've never worked with a trainer and I want to take advantage of that. Who would you recommend and I'll see if there available to work with me.
Thanks,
TnDep

well if it is only twenty sticks, id say your not doing all that bad. Give widewing, delirium, mntnman, or badboy (if he still plays) a shout.
Aside from trainers, hook up with the sticks that give ya a hard time. They will generally help ya out.

TnDep,
As with most in the game that have been around a while, we have our specialties in aircraft and tactics. What aircraft do you normally fly and how do you normally fly it?. What do you consider your strengths and weaknesses?. The more info you give us the more we can narrow the trainer field (not that there is a lot of us :lol).

TnDep, as Estes posted, if you only having trouble with about "20 sticks" then seriously it is those 20 sticks you should be fighting /dueling to really improve ....
you will not get too much further by jst dueling/fighting anyone .if your fights are equal or you are obliterating most in dueling/fighting then that is not really helping you at all, except for being repetative.....all practice helps keep you on your "zEdge" but it does not help toward those who are giving you a fit in trying to beat....
ask those "20 sticks" to go to the TA or DA with you and work with you......they should be willing to do that..after all it offers them the same eventually a good palm sweating fight.....the reason we play the game :aok
and as BigRat posted, if there is any specific plane types you want to work on, or if there is secific problems you know or think you are having......feel free to post them
hope this helps

Thanks for the quick responses Gents! <<S>>
I like fast planes that have the capability of turning great. My overall favorite is the f4u's. Of course I fly other planes like the f6f, 38's, 109F, P40E and my favorite slow plane to fly is the tbm.
Strength's
Measuring Opponent's E
Flat Scissors
Knowing escape routes and keeping myself in between the enemy and my base
knowing every planes speed/turning capibilites
Weaknesses
Gunnery
over using flaps - might be losing speed when I don't need to
When to use trim
Big Weakness
Vertical barrel roll/rolling scissors I always lose them to good sticks and I need help improving in that maneuver.
I agree TC thanks ya most I duel with I win every rd. which is not helping me.

Well as far as hog trainers go, we have lots of them. TC, Mtnman, or me, all spend a lot of time in the hogs. I'm normally on around 9:00 central time during the week except Friday with FSO. In case you just want to pop in and do some work, as long as I'm not with another student it shouldn't be a problem. I love rolling scissors, hogs are naturally good at them, just like rolling in the mud :lol. TC and MtnMan are the more veteran hog trainers but If you want to give the newer trainer a try, let me know.

What TC said
There's very often a rolling 1-1 going in the DA around 23/24 in the evenings. look for dedalos, grizz etc etc and you will find some of the guys you want to be fighting.
The differences in the level you are talking about can be gunnery reflexes and timing, none of which are "taught" as such. There's not a lot "magic" moves or ACM that will make the difference

rgr that Redd, I duel at those fields with those guys quite a bit and I couldn't have gotten to where I'm at today without some of their help. Theres just a few maneuvers that I need to learn how to perform them correctly maybe BigRat can help me with. Mainly the rolling scissors I seem to lose the most in.

Wow TnDep.. last 20 guys that put me on their Kil board were on their "2 Week Trial" and 1/2 of them squeekers, the other half blind!
Fly and tape view and get shot down. Have Fun! <salute> Brotha

I frequently lose in them too :( Its almost like I would rather force a rolling scissors into a flat scissors where I can win than do a rolling scissors and take the risk.

still losing in them Ardy :lol watch the 39q in the Dueling match against Bruv. I would call this a rudder roll or it appeared to be anyways. Got to practice up on these type of manuvers and some reversal techniques. It's a never ending process of improving I guess thats why I love the game so much. Take care

TnDep when you are done working with the trainers would you come teach me? Learn one do one teach one philosophy??
All I fly is the Niki, and it would be great to match up against the types of planes you fly and learn!
Thanks- <<S>> Clonk

Clonk ur a great pilot already Sir! :salute I'll be glad too one day when I feel I'm ready.

If only 20 out of ~6000 players (0.3%!) that are flying each tour can hand you your butt, you are an absolute top-notch pilot. You shouldn't take lessens, you should teach!
(Yes, this IS a tongue-in-cheek post :D :bolt:)

TnDep, I notice you have mentioned trim a few times. I don't mess with it. It might give a small edge here and there in a vacuum, but imho you can get more out of your plane by keeping your focus on the more important control factors: Angles, throttle control, and smoothness.
-
TnDep "is" a top notch pilot, at least from what I have seen in the F4U. Considering as far as he come in the short amount of time that he has been here, I was very impressed. It's been a while since someone gave me a hog workout like he did. He needs to come in the TA more often to simply keep me sharper. Can't tell if the axe is getting dull if I'm only hitting saplings.

rgr that Grizz I've studied about 5 hours of those films so far still got some critiqueing to do I must say your the best at angles I've been up against  I'll send you an email sometime in the next two weeks.

Flying the hog is my passion I've gotten over 5000 kills in that plane alone in the last year. I appreciate the compliment but I'm still very passionate about getting better and feel I got a long way to go learning angles, reversals, and performing maneuvers more fluid. bruv, kazaa, and grizz have been a big help along with yourself bigrat doing some scissors. And your axe isn't getting dull we had some fun duels and I think the water ended alot of our fun in those slow scissors. I'm available for duels anytime look me up and we'll do some in the DA :salute

All the manoeuvres already exist and are well know, and there will always be 20 - 30 guys at any one time who can kick your butt. Getting to a stage were absolutely no one can beat you ever it doesn't exist m8.
Between 2 evenly matched opponents form is the difference, you can fight the same guy you handsomely beat today and 2 days later and get your butt kicked by him. To have form you must be motivated to maintain form, but maintaining form indefinitely leads to boredom which leads to a lack of motivation and eventually.... a drop in form. :D

I'm not saying that I want to get good enough that no one can beat me, just saying I got alot of improvement to go before competeing with the best. I was saying that there is about 20 sticks that beat me consistantly. And your statement about 20 to 30 guys at anytime who can kick your butt I believe is a false statement just my opinion I believe maybe 5 at anytime if your good enough. I don't think 20 to 30 guys can beat Kazaa or Grizz at any point as I've dueled them both and I can't touch either one of them. There are plenty of others besides just those two that beat me more then I beat them. Example: Tiger Woods winning 50% of his tournaments against the top 150 in the world I didn't see him getting bored. Jimmy Johnson dominating Nascar I don't see him getting bored. Theres nothing wrong with trying to reach the top and once you get there I don't see any boredom there but I see a sense of work paying off and passing on your success to others and teach. The great teacher Jesus Christ said to achieve greatness you must serve the many. This applys to every aspect of your life and I try to apply it in mine. :salute

Oh absolutely there is, maybe even more than 30. And if you don't see these guys your not fighting a wide enough spread of pilots/arenas most of them are never mentioned on the BBS. I remember writing out my 'top sticks' list I had to stop at 10 or so. I could have went on and on you forget how many truely great sticks there are in this game, on reflection the whole concept of a top ten in this game is a pointless exercise imo.
And Tiger Woods...well he must've been getting bored with something considering the amount of press coverage hes had lately! :devil

About Tiger his zipper has cost him about 60 million dollars a year but on the course he was fearless and I never saw any boredom. I agree with you about how many top sticks there are It's quite amazing actually I can think of 30 easily. I've dueled about everyone in the game at one time or another that visits the DA/Koth.

Yeah I know, like hes the only person in the world to ever screw up that way. Media should really leave the guy alone.

:aok No other way to put it other than that's the ultimate attitude and admirable! :aok
In my experience, in life and in any game vs real people, you will NEVER be #1. There is ALWAYS someone that can beat you sooner or later. Especially with people I have run with and against, they ALWAYS strive to improve. The day you THINK your at the top, is the day you tie pretty pink bow on your tail with a 20 mile neon sign showing the way. Mostly because If you get too comfy, people will suprise you when "dumb" things they do throw you off. People are habitual by nature. My best "gaming" opponent (mostly Strategy and fighting games) I routinely beat and consistently. Yet I can't remember a single game ever where his.. Awkward if not insane behaviors and quick adaptation has NOT thrown me for a loop. Striving for perfection is the ONLY way to get better. It can always be cleaner, it can always be sharper, but also acknowledging "Murphy's Law: What can go wrong, will go wrong" means Perfection isn't obtainable until you can read minds... and wheres the FUN in that? Want a predictable enemy, go play an AI, but that's not why were here :D The best friends and foes to sharpen our fangs are the ones that make us :huh :O :joystick: while :pray then it's either  or :rock right? :lol

I agree with Perv. Every player who starts dueling and starts getting good at it goes through a period when all they want to do is win fights. The player who win as much as possible are usualy those who have got to the top and only been there for a year or less. Once you reach a level where constantly winning fights is not satisfying anymore you start to want to enjoy fights. Make the fight last as long as possible. Take risks, fly erratic, hold back on that killshot and see if you can go a step further. This often leads to a dramatic decrease in wins, but a vast increase in enjoyment, win or lose. This is a state of mind that usualy only occcurs after a number of years at the top of the DA foodchain.

Very good point and AGREED :aok Easy-Win fights IMO are hollow, but the option to extend is so NOT at YOUR discretion if your sloppy, clue-less, or like me - Lost lol.
Film has been my friend, first day here i tumbled with FLS... well, IMO more like i offered myself up to FLS, neatly wrapped and tagged with a pretty bow lol. Everywhere else I've flown I've been masterful at evasion and reversal. Fair understanding of maneuvering and geometry from that experience helps me stay in the saddle or fight for the angle, but I can't shake 6 at all. I've pinned it down to a SA issue, more specifically, my orientation relative to my enemy. I've been able to set up situations that have SO MUCH potential to reverse and that's from looking at the film. Great e and general setup several times, but then loosing visual, ESPECIALLY below me and i'd have to say 99% of the time that's it. I either re-saddle myself for the enemy, or gift-wrap clean 6 shots from pulling out the wrong way. If I loose sight, it takes FAR FAR longer than It should to regain contact. I've lost people in window frames, but mostly it's anything under me and I loose it so bad that by the time i see them i'm out of position if i even see them at all. It's also something I'm doing, it's way too consistent that I nearly ALWAYS orienting myself in ways where theres just no way for me to capitalize unless they mess up. I'm seeing it on film, but not catching that self-killing movement when it happens. Probably from struggling to cope with that blind spot my radar always took care of for me before. It's embarrassing to admit the solution is really as simple as rolling 180 at one specific moment. I just miss that moment about as consistent as the sun rises during the actually fight. I'm using a TM Afterburner, it has a separate throttle with a self-centering paddle for rudder (I hate z-twist passionately) total 8 buttons + 8way hat. One button is "look up" which used with the hat gives me in total all 8 level, 8 up angle, and vertical while hands on. I'll probably see if theres a way to stop the snap-to-front to see if that helps ease the feeling i'm fighting to hold view back. Hopefully that will resolve the distraction to allow me to try to get that roll to view at the right time. ^.^ I'm evasion-defense minded by nature, so my personal priority 1 is developing consistency in resolving on-my-6, opposite my consistant fail-rate lol. Not necessarily a kill result, at this time i'd be happy with just about any results that DON'T end in chute ride and new plane lol.
-
Well TnDep i have never offered my skills to the enemy, but you have earned my respect !
I have taught many in the DA on the bish side. And i be willing to work with you if you like . You have alot of skill come into this , the main thing is understanding the plane weakness and strength's and how best to use that! Situation awareness ,and a few combat maneuvers . And remember your line of retreat , and good vox control with friendlys! Most pepole see the nearest plane and go for it , they don't understand altitude and airspeed, and that it can be converted into turns and maneuvers, and before they know it, there in trouble! Wingman is my specialty, and do well at! Good luck, here if you need it, but we fly bish!
-
Thanks guys I appreciate all of your ideas and thoughts. I think I'm good to go know just need to practice a few maneuvers. Thanks
