...as to what causes "Aceshigh.exe has encountered a problem and must shut down"? I have searched and couldn't find anything about it. I have already gotten two this tour (once in a 262, once in a Ki-84, so it's not related to one aircraft). I usually don't get these messages. Any idea?
-
Could be any number of things. A DxDiag would be helpful. Start>Run>DxDiag>Save As>post top 1/3. The help can ensue from there. It could be a driver problem, software trouble, hardware trouble, malware or any number of things.
-
Always wondered where the 1/3 mark was lol

What settings are you running AH at? Any custom sounds?
I could be dead wrong, but I'd update your sound drivers (2004) and turn back your video driver a little bit (Skuzzy can probably recommend the best driver for that card). I had to really fiddle with my sound drivers when I installed Win7/64 and I'm still having some issues, myself.
-
I'm using Sketchworks 2009, and have been for a long time. I have seen this message a few times before, but twice in a matter of a day got me to wondering. I didn't get one today. Maybe I'm just paranoid after losing a 262 to it :noid
-
I would not be using those video drivers with that card. Go back to some earlier ones and try them.
Can I assume you hav "Detailed Terrain" disabled? Can I further assume you have the "Maximum Texture Size" set to 256, or so?
-
Everything is enabled except for the special shadowing, and max texture is 1024
-
Are you nuts? That video card is limping along at best. You are piling too much on it. Would you ask a 10 year kid to pull your car around the block and expect him to do it at 30MPH?
Turn on "Bump Mapping". Disable the rest and set the texture size to 256. While you are at it, set the game resolution to 1024x768, or something in that area.
-
It's running better than the Radeon X300 and 512MB of RAM I used to have :D. So in other words I have to spend a couple hundred dollars to be able to run the game without any problems and look better than a Nintendo game? Nice....

Nope. Only $140.00 if u have pci-e slot.

-
Rumor has it that I would have to replace more than just the video card? Of course, I know nothing about computers...
-
It depends on the size of the apeture of the video card slot (AGP, PCI-E etc) and the size of the power supply you already own.
-
You got too many processes loading up at start-up/boot-up.....
Page File: 513MB used, 2149MB available
you should be way under 300MB used at startup.......... around 24 processes or less is ideal....
example: my windowsXP pro 32 bit OS is using 17 Processes sitting idle at bootup
also..... your Direct Sound Hardware Acceleration is set to FULL
drop it back to at least 3/4 to give you some more performance / frame rate in Aces high
and do as Skuzzy suggest 256 textures or at maximum 512
also, I have found that in the past.... I actually received better performance using 1280x1024 screen resolution over using 1024x768.....
I took a framerate hit using 1024x768, however it was just a minor hit.....
hope this helps....
PS: Del, check ya pm's

Power supply is exactly what I was talking about lol.

Power supply is exactly what I was talking about lol.
Of all the things to replace in a computer, I think a power supply is the easiest (except for maybe ram sticks) unless you want to hide all the wires and make it look pretty and run cooler.
Del, check ya pm's
I have PMS? :D

Well, you are asking a $25.00 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143050&Tpk=7300GS) video card to perform like a $100.00 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102824) video card. That is akin to expecting a SmartCar to perform like a Ferrari.
You do not have to have a high end card to play the game, but if you want all the eye candy, at high resolution, you have to have the correct video card to do it.
-
Oh, I understand completely. It's just there's no use since my game time will be almost non-existent in a few months. :(
