Well the chickens make a great intro to the song! Hehehe.

You kidding? The two sound so similar that I'm betting theres a copyright suit in there somewhere. That rooster's gonna be rich.

A friend of mine moved to Calgary a couple years ago and apparently there's a modern rock radio station up there who's whole marketing slogan is that the station will never, ever play Nickleback. :)
-
There is a station down here that was one of the best that I have listened to in Birmingham if not the entire US and they were pushing a "No Nickleback or Black Eye Peas" song ever in their lineup. They are being reformated to a flapping new talk format so its a moot point now. Now we get stuck with crappy "Classic Rock", Country, news talk, Top 40 reruns and sports talk once again.
No more good indie rock, punk or other just good new music.
-
As a Canadian....... Nickelback is an embarrassment to our country and music industry.
But hey someone's getting rich off of this fertilizer.....

"From the people who brought you Celine Dion..."

Now to be honest, Nickelback's music dont really bother me. But Ive noticed that a lot of people hate them. Why is that so? Rock songs about partying, drinking, and getting laid seem to be the highlight of most their new songs, but why do people hate that? :headscratch:

to be honest I would rather listen to nickleback than some of the garbage that gets pumped into teenagers heads, Nickleback are just bubblegum rock, annoying but not preaching "popping caps" etc. My biggest p1ss off is a little gadget we used to use in the 80's to help get a good live sound called an aural exciter, it seems that no vocalist will record without one now days, you know that real synthetic vocal sound, they have this thing cranked right up and can get away with mistakes, poor pitch control and the likes and then sell it as music. This gadget was meant to be an aid used subtley but now its overkill, bring back the real vocalists that dont need special effects to cut it in the studio. Enough of my rant, back to putting watermelon on Nickleback, they deserve it.

The two saddest days of my life within the last year was Indie 103.1 going off the air here in L.A. and Sirius ditching the all punk channel.

AMEN BRO!
For the record I never said "good punk rock"; I said "No more good indie rock, punk or other just good new music"; there is a BIG DIFFERENCE.

I think there is still a lot of good music out there today, just have to know where to look, a lot of the bands I listen to these days most people haven't heard of but they're putting out IMHO some great, great music.
Alejandro Escovedo - punk rock kid from Huntington Beach, CA who grew up and moved to Austin. He's lived quite the life, his last album "Real Animal" is a story of his musical career, from his first band The Nuns in San Francisco, he also lived in the Chelsea Hotel in 1978. He was standing on the sidewalk outside the hotel when the police hauled Sid Vicious away.

Chuck Prophet - Based in San Francisco, he actually co-wrote the Alejandro's last record which is how I found out about him. He recorded his most recent album in Mexico City in the middle of the swine flu outbreak.

Jon Dee Graham - Another Austin musician, one of those great rock 'n roll voices. It sounds like he smokes twenty packs of cigarettes a day. :)
-

I believe they're calling it Auto-Tune. and yeah, my teenager's record collection is full of it. I ask her "where the talent is?" which annoys her greatly.
-
I dont think "best" and "nickleback" should be in the same sentence.
Auto tune eh? Thats pretty much the key to t-pains success. I think it sounds pretty cool, but they get carried away with it. *cough t-pain *cough.
Whats that thing Frampton uses to make that cool guitar sound, and that thing with his voice? When he does it with his voice he uses this tube looking thing. Is that anything at all like what auto tune does?

Frampton uses what's called a talk box. The tube you see transfers the sound from a speaker inside of a box into his mouth. He then manipulates the sound by "mouthing" words. The auto tune is a midi device that actually takes the singer's voice and manipulates it with a keyboard. Auto tune requires zero talent from the singer.
-
Aah thanks sluggish. I was thinking it was something box but wasnt sure. From my understanding, auto tune is some sort of pitch correction/changing software. And that "jump" in pitch is what makes the sound.
I know some folks like Cher used auto tune, but I dont think anyone had any success with it (at least as much as t pain.) I agree it takes no talent from the artist, but it sounds kinda cool nonetheless. :)

Probably some of the best examples of Auto-Tune used for comedic effect: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbqNaIRW9vY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbqNaIRW9vY) Auto-Tune the News, shawty.

Sick and flapping tired of hearing Frampton on the "classic rock" radio station here in town...so much so because the only song they play is one from a concert he did live here in the mid 90's and he used that DANG box. Hearing it occasionally...once every 6 months to a year is fine but not every day.
-

It has nothing to do with what their singing about, and has everything to do with the awful singing and song-writing.
People have been writing about hedonism forever, but the key is to avoid making it sound like crap.
In this, Nickleback has failed, and failed miserably. They are on par with the worst bands in history, and have provided some of the most compelling argument yet for irreversible hearing loss.
-
I have to admit their unique use of the close harmony was neat the first couple of times ("leader of Men", "Breathe"), but anything can only be done so many times before it just becomes a caricature of itself...

I'm not a fan of punk, I'll put that out there right now. I enjoy bands like the Ramones, the Clash, the Dead Kennedys, etc not that I listen to them often, but when I do I like it - I like classical music the same way - and some of the other bands that punk was founded on, but the majority of punk turns me off (especially that hardcore nonsense)...
However mid-late 90's/ early 2000's pop-punk has got to be some of the worst crap to ever make it's way out of the rear end of the music industry, and to be quite honest there's a fairly significant portion of rap/ hip-hop 'music' that I'd rather listen to.

classic :rofl im still laughing
-
MxPx ?? ummm dont know if thats damn good punk, but i can tell you the Ramones, Velvet Underground,The Clash, and dont forget the Sexpistols, now thats Punk Rock at its finest, i could go on with close to 90 other punk bands, the UK was the mainstream and the starting point.

Seeing a couple fellow Clash fans in this thread made me think to point out that Joe Strummer put out three records with his new band The Mescalero's before he died, while they are quite different than what he did with the Clash I think they're all great records in their own right.
Here's a couple songs off the 2nd album Global A-Go Go which I think is probably the best of the three.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqEOOvoEi_w (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqEOOvoEi_w)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZiPCJrd0_4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZiPCJrd0_4)
I can't watch the 2nd vid without thinking I'd have given my right arm to be at that show.
On the third and final album, which I believe was mixed after his death they included a solo track, Joe Strummer singing Marley's Redemption Song, which was recorded in Rick Rubin's studio.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F10tP5HIpaA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F10tP5HIpaA)
Finally there is a GREAT interview that he did to promote the first album, this has to be my favorite interview I've ever seen with a musician, the poor guy had to have thought 'ol Joe was a bit of a mad man by the end of it.
