Im replacing my older IBM thinkpad. Right now ive got my choice narrowed down to either a Toshiba, Sony, or even Alienware.
I know they are over-priced etc. But, it may well be worth the price jump if they arent loaded down with bloat.
So, anyone running an alienware laptop? Far as Toshiba and Sony goes, from everyone ive messed with it seems like Sony latops have less bloat.
But what im really interested in, is how alienware laptops compare to the rest as far as bloat goes. I truely have no idea, as I dont know anyone with an alienware desktop much less a laptop.

Heya Estes,
I know that DELL will let you order and pick and choose what you want installed on it, even if it is just the "vanilla standard Windows(XP/7 32 bit/64 bit ) OS and nothing more......
least they used to do that, we ordered all our Lapttops from DELL back when I was in Florida, and was able to pick exactly what we wanted on them
none of that "join AOL" crap or similar stuff and extra bloatware apps that comes on these machines like HP help center etc...... ( regarding HP PC's)
might be a good idea to call which ever manufacturer you are wanting to get laptop of, and asked them if they can install only what you want....
just a thought

Lenovo laptops seem to be rock solid.
Lenovo used to make the IBM thinkpad for IBM.
I use both.

Thanks fellas, ive heard of the one you mentioned kermit but thats about it. I know they exist and thats all I know about em.
TC, ill give dell a call and see if they will still build to suit. I really really dont want any of the garbage they throw on there.
Also along with the new laptop, anyone know of a good sata hard drive enclosure? Ill be wanting to take my music and whatnot off my backup drive from my pc.

Yes bloat sucks... but you can usually remove it if you know what you are doing... at least with XP I never really ran into a problem with that... I don't have any experience removing bloat from Vista/7

When I bought my laptop, Clevo was making the Alienware machines (before Dell bought them out). They make some really fast laptops, it may be worth a look.
