Title: Italian Bombers!!!
Post by: Ardy123 on February 16, 2010, 04:02:03 PM
This may have been asked before but there are many 'cool' Italian birds missing from the game, esp in the bombers.

First one that comes to mind is the CANT Z.1007

or how about these bad boys...
Savoia Marchetti Sm-84
Savoia Marchetti Sm-82
Savoia Marchetti Sm-81
Reggiane Re-2002
Fiat Cansa Fc-20 (<-- heavy fighter)

Cant Z.1007

I like this CANT Z.1007.

Carries almost 5000ibs of bombs, decent speed(285)

Very unique aircraft, and sorely needed for Italian special events. +1

Wouldnt be bad as the plane has a bomb load of 4900lbs in the external/internal combination.  Not that dang bad for a medium bomber.

Yea, only bad thing is the climb rate, only 750ft/minute. But it is a bomber. Defence isnt that good either. (2 303s and 2 50cals).  But its a italian that was built in strong number for an italian aircraft. (660) Tri engine.

Another interesting fact. The luftwaffe operated all captured .1007s. Germans obviously thought it was decent.

Squadrons that put the bird to use are as followed:
16th Bomber Wing, with:
50th Bomber Squadron (X2)

47th Bomber Wing, with:
106th Bomber Squadron
107th Bomber Squadron

The Z.1007 was largely used in the invasion of Greece, followed by service in the Mediterranean, North Africa and especially against Malta. On the Russian front, the use of the three engine bombers was sporadic and intermittent.

Not to mention the Battle of Brittain.

No, but neither should an IL-2.

I am all for adding an Italian bomber, as long as it meets AH requirements for inclusion to the game.

For the special events an Italian bomber would be very nice. Much needed is a Russian bomber as well. I would give a thumbs up to either one

Yes sir it did, but as a reconnaissance plane.

I think Jolly meant that the 12.7mm (being equivalent to a .50 cal/.5 in) and the 7.7mm (equivalent to a .303) was the armament.  Simple use of metric system vice American ammunition caliber designation.
