Hey all, by my reckoning even though it had the largest empire in history and the most miraculous military triumphs. Britains best achievements are in television.
Three iconic shows tell me so and they are :
Dr Who!!!
Men who need no introduction unless its by llama's
(http://images.fanpop.com/images/image_uploads/Top-Gear-top-gear-528310_700_700.jpg)
and the three luckiest men in history.
Now its your turn, send in nominations for best TV show ever made. Majority wins (side note if its anything with Paris hilton or something in that sort of vein in it consider it disqualified)
-
The only shows that if one's on I really get excited about are Top Gear, the Daily Show, MPFC, South Park and the Colbert Report...
'How it's Made' gets honorable mention, because it's made in Canada, has awesome *cough* background music, and is so boring but strangely fascinating.
Sometimes Antique Roadshow UK is on BBC America when I get home from school and for whatever reason I could probably sit and watch that for hours...
-
Top Gear.
South Park.
Red Dwarf.
Blackadder.
& Tour of Duty (late 1980s, anyone who was born too late.....find the DVDs)
-
Hmm, my favorite TV shows:
NCIS
The Daily Show
Corner Gas (for the short time I could watch it)
I guess this may not qualify for "best ever made" but I like em! :aok
-
NCIS? Only saving grace that show has is the two hot chicks. :)
-
Breaking Bad, and Flight of the Conchords are two of my favorites.

lol, I can't help it, comedy, military, science, sigs! What's there not to love?
Oh and just to clarify, I'm talking about the original NCIS not the LA one.
-
The Simpsons
Flight of the Conchords
IT Crowd
ack-ack

If I were to pick, it's going to come down to a tie between:

i NEED to find tour of duty dvd's cause that show is awsome!
highlander show....
-
It's always sunny in Philadelphia is currently my favorite, however I own the DVD's and have never watched it as a regular TV show. Maybe not the best show ever, but the best one right now. Does that count?
Tour of Duty was a good show when I was younger. I'd be interested to see if it is as good as I remember.

Samurai Jack, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Jeeves and Wooster (Hugh Laurie, but as a British twit!), Frasier, and 30 Rock...how to narrow it down... :headscratch:
Samurai Jack, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and 30 Rock.
Both Battlestar Galacticas were pretty good, as was Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I thought battlestar galactica was at the top bar none until it started to fall apart mid way through season 3. Out of shows still in production, 24 is still my fav even after however many years it has been of Jack Bauer pwnage.

Battlestar Galactica (re-imagined): overall best TV show, ever. Also, best in SciFi.
Robotech was the best "kids" cartoon when I was growing up (in before anime snobbery).
House, for best show currently showing new episodes.
Family Guy and South Park, tied for best cartoons currently showing new episodes.
Planet Earth for best documentary/science/nature on TV.
The Dan Patrick Show for best morning show.
The Road to the Final Four for best sports tournament on television.
Deadliest Catch for best "reality" show.
-
What third season? The re-imagined Battlestar Galactica only had 2 seasons. :noid *fingers in ears*
Haha fair enough. Can we at least include the first 4 episodes of season 3 also?
-
M.A.S.H hands down is the best ever.
Andy Griffith Show is another good one.
-
I loved doctor who
-
What abou the bbc production of Piece of Cake.
Some of the acting a bit hammy, but some of the most beautiful aerial scenes of WW2 ever on TV
For those of you that haven't read any Derek Robinson, you don't know what you're missing. Particularly Goshawk Squadron, for those interested in WW1 :aok
-
12 O'clock High
Baa Baa Black Sheep
-
Robotech was the best "kids" cartoon when I was growing up (in before anime snobbery).
I wasn't born in time for Robotech, but I do remember the original Gundam and G Gundam series. They were my first forays into the world of anime and plastic model kits.
Haha fair enough. Can we at least include the first 4 episodes of season 3 also?
Oh, you mean those add-on episodes they released to supplement season 2! ;) Of course! Razor is included as well.
I must admit that I do kind of like watching Whale Wars, if only to root for the Japanese trawlers in hopes of the Whale Warriors crashing.
-
Id have to vote for Hogans heros, The Unit, Scrubs and House.

Having a problem not including Band of Brothers, but I thought I'd keep to the lighter side of shows, since that was the "tone" of the initial post.

I can't WAIT for the new movies with Russel and Spader that will completely ignore the SG1 continuity. The only way I could be happier is if Richard Hatch got to do his BSG Classic sequel.
-
Dangermouse
Wow! There's one I haven't thought of in years! Great cartoon! +1 for Dangermouse!
-

Always loved this show. Massive ammounts of unintentional humour, the great William Shatner and tons of hot chicks.

Don't believe everything your read (or don't see) on IMDB. That place is so full of errors Wikipedia is spotless by comparison. As of 2006, at least, they were working on getting the ball rolling on two sequel films.
-
I haven't read all of the responses yet, so I don't know if it has been mentioned but I would put Upstairs Downstairs in the top spot for me. It's a series produced in England in the 70's and it is a truly amazing drama on so many levels. I think it's Britian's number one or number two TV series of all time. The writing, sets, acting, historical accuracy, production and pure entertainment value is truly unparalleled. If you like thoughful, quality entertainment check it out.

Project Runway
Queer Eye for the SunBat Guy
Jersey Shore

Yeah I searched the net and found an article about it, but it was dated back in 2006 during Comic Con that year, there's nothing out there about it since then so unfortunately it seems like it might be dead.
