Im sure they won't use these for loading reasons..
For fun I made a Major Hannes Trautloft pilot skin. along with a pin up of his sweetheart in the cock pit.

-
Schwwwwwiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnggggg gg!
Fantastic looking skin. I want it all, including the sweetheart photo in the cockpit!
-
LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!!!! :O

I like the battered distemper/white appearance on the fuselage (although it's not as bad in the photos ;) ), but it doesn't seem to have the same weathering as the wings (and is sharper). Did you miss a layer or two there?
I almost hesitate to ask, since it's WIP and the obvious answer is "he's not done yet, silly!" :D
I would be more than content to reduce all the other planes in the game down to 10 skins max if the 109F could get 30!! So many lovely paint schemes for this lovely ride!
(*ducks and runs from all manner of sharp things thrown by P-51 pilots for even suggesting cutting back on skins*)

Thanks Raven, beautiful skin, and I appreciate the slide show..

Very good eye there Krusty. :aok
This skin is simply painted as a moment in time.. lets say before it got washed or the photo was taken. ;)
On to your question
yes it's deliberate.
Weathering isn't consistant on the tops and sides of vehicles of any type.
On the sides the dust dirt tends not to settle as much as on the tops.
My feeling is that the wings and elevators get more dust sun and wear, as they are flat surfaces. Most of the wear is caused by always getting polished washed, solvent spills wearing the paint thin. ..
Best way I can think to explane it is its similar to cars weathering. Cars that were painted with lacquer or enamel paint or any non clearcoat non urethane finish will see the tops slightly more oxidised or get worn thin from polishing to much. especially the edges or high spots(cars from 1908 to the early 80"s that is). its a detail most don't realise or think about. I have a classic auto restoration background so I pick up on that detail were others may overlook it. perhaps I over think it a bit. :)
Its just my interpretation of the difference in wear on the air craft from the upper surface's compared to the sides
.. probably a mute point as far as oxidation goes on a winter skin..
from the pit were I intend most to see the skin from .. I favored a bit more weathered detail on the wings for the player.. just a bit of creative licence I suppose. :)

Yes, yes, by all means, yes, yet there's never any snow on the ground in the arenas.. Flying NoE, such a thing might just save yerass.
I present, as Exhibit A, the following - i'm sure many of you have seen it:

And actually, you could improve this by shrinking the black mottling.

Oh man, that's just sweet!
How about a Spitfire skin next. :D
-
Very nice again NrRaven...I will be torn between this and your K4 to fly.

Wow! Nice! :O :O :O
-
Great skin Raven. :aok Maybe the camo on the wings looks slightly harder edged than that in the photo.
-
Thanks will work on that again :aok
-
Ahh... one of the very first skins I've submitted when AH first started accepting player-made skins into the game.
Trauloft's personal markings, but with desert scheme.
It's quite nice to see it being brought back into the game at the hands of such talented skinners.

That is very impressive work there and I look forward to seeing it ingame.
I will have a hard time giving up the Marseille F series but if there are winter maps - this is it!!

IF, he said laconically...
I asked it before - where are they? Have we had them in past and they fell out of favor? I only ask to know - I'm well aware of how difficult this whole operation probably is for Dale and Co. and am NOT complaining, I'm just curious.
Really, I want a persistent winter battlefield because the blood shows up better on snow.
It really does make a difference, especially to the skin people will choose.

Great Skin :rock
-
Is it just me or did someone else notice how they over-modelled the prop? It seems to big in the game
-
Often when you're looking at it the game gives a fish-eye effect and makes it look out of proportion. Try moving the camera away from the plane's external view, then zooming in, instead of moving the camera in closer.
For example:
109F skin with Fisheye:

109F skin with no fisheye:

It's all a matter of perspective.
