Title: AH Ack guns
Post by: Scotty55OEFVet on February 21, 2010, 11:47:22 PM
I put an excerpt from this post int he other 5IN thread, but I think this will be better.  We have all had that random AA hit at 7k that either Tower's you or rips a wing off, etc?  Well, I believe I have found a site that will once and for all prove that the AA has got to be looked at and remodeled.  I have even heard those say that after the invention of the Proxy Fuse that planes went down more often.  In fact, later in the war, the amount of rounds needed to take down an Aircraft actually increased by quite a bit.  Here is the link and I would like to hear what others think about this.  I mean Ill be the first to say I love firing up dudes in the 5's and also the first to be utterly amazed that someoene hit me from th emanned ack at 6K.  But check it out.

Link does not work....

Dont hold your breathe though, HTC has let the AAA go a long time and we all know the deficiency it carries.

Cant imagine it being different than the AA, but in their defense they did remodel the fire rate to realistic numbers.

Maybe there is hope yet....

That is just a glimpse of some of the cool info on AAA on this Site.  I hope this backs up my thread.

Awww, well that sucks...wonder why?  Well, thanks for looking and for clarifying...should try and find link though, you would be amazed at how inaccurate AAA was.  I think I googled Aircraft Killed by AAA in WWII.  It came off the Navy Department Library Website.  Go to Title List-Alphabetically-Antiaircraft Action Summary WWII.

 :aok

I'd like to see it remodelled (accuracy wise and target tracking). At the same time I'd like to see the naval 40mm bofors beefed up somewhat, it seems to top out at 7k ish, whereas it was effective up to 12k ish (would also be a bigger threat to buffs.) the bofors killed about 2x the aircraft that 5" did.

I read somewhere that the director systems couldnt track even inbound suicide aircraft if they were "doing aerobatics", suggesting that you could defeat the tracking by not flying straight and level (as you'd expect), probably my biggest beef with the current modelling.

You also have to look at the practice involved here. In the war how many planes coming in at the guns did these guys shoot at? How often? In this game a guy can sit in a gun a fire at10 times more planes in an hour or so than most people saw in the whole war. Unlimited ammo, unlimited targets, and unlimited lives to practice hitting guys 5 and 6 k out. I know guys that have sat in the training arena for hours with friends flying different attack runs just so they could practice, not to mention an accurate lead computing site to go with it.

The guns aren't over modeled, the players are !

The only thing modeled wrong here is how stable the gun platforms are because the carrier slides level over the water like a ice skater.

In real life, guns kicked up and down with every wake, that is why carrier guns are so effective in aces high.
