Title: WWI quiz for today.
Post by: Treize69 on February 22, 2010, 05:10:37 PM
No prize except for bragging rights, but here goes-

What pilot is generally credited with being the first one labeled by the press as an 'ace'?

Here's a hint (might actually make it too easy)- he was also the first man to successfully perform a loop and was (supposedly) the first man in Europe to descend safely to earth in a parachute.

You got it, Adolphe Celestin Pègoud.

He was, incidentally, shot down and killed by a man he had taught to fly, Unteroffizier Kandulski of the German IAS.
