Title: Wouldn't you know it...
Post by: aztec on February 24, 2010, 11:08:29 AM
after a 3 year layoff I made it back into the friendly skies of Ah  It's been 2 weeks back and now my antique motherboard is dead. :cry I know this is a real long shot but does anyone have a working Gigabyte GA
K8NS Ultra motherboard,(or compatible) laying around in a closet or something? :pray.

My System:
above mentioned mobo
AMD 3000+ 939 pin processor
Radeon 9800 SE 128/256 AGP 8X

2 gigs kingston DDR 400 Ram
Thermaltake 430 Watt Power
Soundbaster MP3

Don't have the money for a new system and this one has always performed soooo well.
I would be happy to pay a fair price and shipping.  Any help at all would be hugely appreciated!

Are you positive it's the board?  I have a 939 3500, and 3700+ cpu laying around but my buddy just stole the only 939 board i had last week.

I feel your pain... awhile back I was laid off for a few months.. I got all kinds of AH playing time available to me for the first couple of weeks then my processor started overheating.  I disassembled it, cleaned all the CRUD out of its fan, reassembled it and after that the computer would not boot.  No bent pins, no visual damage... just no boot.... I tinkered it for several hours before giving in and pulling out my old pentium 3 from the basement.  I'm thinking one of the capacitors near the processor got bumped in the process and that did it in.

My backup was good enough to surf the web and look for jobs, but my attempt of AH gave me about 3FPS and the audio wouldn't even stay stable enough to talk on vox.  I did get back into an old game I used to play "Starcraft" and that system was barely god enough for that! (Got lots of complaints of stuttering while playing games online due to the slow system LOL).

It took me six months to get a job, get caught up on the bills, save up some money and upgrade my system.

You might check out some used computer stores in the area... sometimes they have piles of old but perfectly functional motherboards laying around.  They might give you one or sell you one cheap.

Found one of those boards brand new on ebay for $99 and free shipping...only problem is it's PCI-E x16 and not AGP.

I think I have one in an old box that is just sitting here still built but it hasn't been turned on in over a year. Maybe it still works. I will give it a shot later tonight and let you know.
