Why post on the boards when an e-mail is so much more thoughtful and personal.

Because this way we can all say "Ooohh..." and "Aaahh..." over it.

Because Skuzzy told me to do it in this fashion after sending him a personal email.

Wrong. As I said in the opening statement in the beginning of the thread the powers to be instructed me to do so.

What a concept to do what you are told to do by the people who know.

Does the "you" in your original post refer to Pyro, or to the skinning community?

since it's addressed to Pryo I'd put my money "you" is Pyro.

It served in an operational Squadron. Yes.

Why wouldn't it be? Is our Typh different than that one right there?

I see where that could be confusing based on how I wrote it. It is for Pyro specifically, however the rest of community feel free to chime in would like to hear of other peoples impressions.

No to your question it is the same plane except for the older style of canopy. The question that was put to me by the skinner who would like to do it was the issue of it being on a loan/trials period for desert evaluation. Then would that be a sticking point for inclusion. Hence he would like an answer so no time would be waisted skinning it.

Personaly I think it is acceptable based off the PDF link I posted.

I seem to recall that this had been given the ok and that we already have Tiffie skins in game that are from the older canopy style Tiffies.

Older canopy was not the issue here in this instance I was just pointing out a difference to the current in game skin.

Seems to me the issue is did it see combat?  If I recall 3-4 Tiffies went to that squadron for testing in North Africa.  But I don't recall that they ever were used operationally.

From what I've read the desert Typhoons were used operationally, albeit from a rear airfield and only to intercept high flying enemy aircraft. It seems unlikely they ever achieved an interception however.

Given that we currently have N1K, A6M and Seafire skins that were from training squadrons I can't why this shouldn't be accepted.

I've always assumed in the waining days of the war, with the enemy flying over your shores and airspace, that the training squadron aircraft were used in combat as an act of desperation in order to replace front line squadron losses.

I'm not a big fan of the training unit japanese planes, but they have a credible argument for inclusion. Some others, I won't get into.

We have a P-47 in RAF garb that was from an OTU (operational training unit) -- but I think the key there was the "operational." There was some discussion about it when it was created, but I don't recall all of it.

Which spitty skin are you thinking of? Might help to jog folks' memories and clear the air.

Who is the question pertaining too? Me Or Greebo? Because I don't know what Seafire skin was with a training unit.

The Seafire with yellow squadron insignia is from a training squadron.
