They made more of theam than the osty, but not tons of theam, the figure excapes me ,and I am away from my books for the moment.I think more mobilewagons were produced than the Wirlwind, basicaly a wirlwind without an enclosed turet the sides folded down and the crew were exposed to fire from the sides they only had the gunshield for cover.

Imagine a M16 on steriods, you have 4 20mm canons firing at a longer efective range, and hitting WAY harder than those 50cal rounds do,now add the ostys durabality and what do have.....fodder for the winers...the only thing the osty has on it is range and hitting power.

Besides with our uberized M16 who neads it,heck i dont know how many times i was strafed last night in my M16 and nothing happened.

What cannons did the Wirbelwind mount? Should it be that it had Mausers, then the above statement isn't really valid. A vehicle armed with 4 50 cal mg's would have a definite edge in what comes to effective range as opposed to a one armed with MG151/20's or so. Firepower advantage would be with the Wirbelwind though.

Whirblewind would get MANY, MANY more kills than the Osty.

Think of an armored M16 wich can kill with two pings. Same range too.

It didnt have MG 151/20s. It had better cannons with higher ROF and range.

20mm Flak 38 L/112.5 with 20mm - 3200 rounds

only 87(105) Wirbelwinds were made, contrary to only 44(43) Ostwinds produced from July 1944 to March of 1945

From:Achtung Panzer! - Limited Production Models !

And the effective range of the FV38 is over 2k...

they are very nasty, long barreled hyper velocity guns.

20 mm Flak 38 is much different cannon than MG 151/20!

Muzzle velocity is around 950 m/s which is about 200 m/s higher than og MG 151/20. Practical rate of fire was much lower, around 250 rounds per minute against about 700 rounds of MG 151/20. Of course Wirbelwind would have four barrels which would make up for the low rate of fire of singel barrel.
