Title: Landing tips for the FW190 series.
Post by: Schlitz on February 28, 2010, 09:17:07 AM
When I land a FW, I bounce several times.  Sometimes I bounce really high.  Any tips that I can use to minimize this?  Thanx in advance!

You're coming in too fast and too steep.   Bleed a little more E off, more shallow and try to touch down around 130ish.

I've flown A8 exclusively for almost 20 years and still screw up the landing...and when i do get it down it's a biotch to steer and slow down   lol

-one thing is I try to be really slow AND have a flat landing arc just as I touch down (on/off throttle once actually over strip) - I use a notch or 2 of flaps but go 0 flaps just as I'm about to touch - I try to "get" the tail wheel down as early as possible (sharp pull backs on the stick) - I know once I have my tail down it will stop the bouncy bouncy  heheheh

Try some of that - if we are lucky someone more knowledgable will jump in.

....cheers eh! :D

This is what flaps are mostly for. SLOW DOWN, get the flaps out and get a shallow approach going. Settle slowly to the pad and pull back gently one the stick as it settles. Pulling the stick all the way back locks the tail wheel so it won't wonder. Hit the brakes. Some planes will nose over if you apply the breaks too much but most will just slow to a stop. Have your wheel brakes set up independantly so you can brake with one side or the other. This greatly helps landing some planes like F4Us that want to do a U-turn upon setting down. Practice off line or in the TA. I don't find FWs to be that particularly hard to land.

Landing well deosnt really matter in this game, but if you must then simply reduce your sink rate by adding a bit more throttle. FWs land better with no gear at all thou

Set gearbrakes on, before you touch a ground.

FWs are very bouncy, its like they have no damping at all in the gear.

full flaps approach @ 120 and as you flair raise flaps all the way chop throttle and bouncing should be minimal ...

If you haven't got your kills in that plane its obviously unlucky so its time to ditch it for a new one, plus the engine wear damage model kicks in the second flight and you don't have the same performance. You may even seize the engine unless its serviced!!!  :aok

If you really must rearm go and park in the service hanger first bring your plane to a stop and wait for the 'servicing complete' message in the text bar, but I honestly would just go with one flight too much hassle otherwise...

I always use the Refueling Pad to rearm - are you suggesting that there is a "service hanger" that will do the same and possibly repair damage?? :x

...or was that just an ol' slip of da lip to confuse people like me?? it don't take much. heheheh

...cheers eh! :D

Thanx fer all the tips fellas!  I tried a few landings going in at a shallower angle.  Seems to help quite a bit.  Thanks once again!

i use alot of rudder and flaps to dump E. seems to work pretty good most of the time. i also try to flair and stall at the same time just over the runway. its works for me, but im used to it. good luck!
