Title: In light of the WWI Arena (My R/C Fold Up Fokker Dr.1 design)

I have always loved the WWI era birds and just had to have a DR1. I built several models last summer but none were very scale so I set out to design one using common parts that would promote the scale appearence. The Guillows wood kit had the plastics I needed so I ordered a set and went to work. This year I am taking a gap year between Highschool and College taking a CAD course so I had time to design and fly several versions of this little guy. What do you think? Any other scratch builders out there?

I don't really look like a modeler but yeah... They let me pose with the Fokker for my mugshot.

Thanks for comments guys! I don't intend to sell a ready to fly version of this plane but I have uploaded free plans to www.rcgroups.com where you can easily build your own.

The airframe is incredibly simple and if you have any modeling skills at all you can have one in the air in less than 5 hours from a sheet of foam.

I love this plane because you can fly it just about anywhere (I fly it in front of my house) but its still incredibly aerobatic. I flew the blue one on Rudder/Elevator/Throttle only but just added ailerons today.

Strat do some research get your design patented,  you dont someone else (or company) will and sell them planes, thats a very cool plane you did a great job you might have found your calling.

That's awesome, you should definitely pat. that design and sell it. You would make a small fortune

You definitely did a good job at it and you should get it patented, and would like to see some video of it too.

Honestly, trying to patent the thing probably wouldn't be worth the cost.  Getting a patent isn't cheap.  Better bet would maybe be to try and market the plans instead.  The plans would be subject to copy rights, which are much more straightforward then patents.  Might even try taking some high quality photos of the construction process and writing up a "How To" article to submit to one of the magazines like ParkFlyer.  Set up a quick and easy website with a PayPal link to sell the plans to coincide with the release of the article.

I would pay $10-15 for the plans.  I buy plans all the time.
