If you could have that "ONE" special car...any car in world no matter how old or new...what would you have?
For me that "one" car is the 1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona:

A dragster with a GE turbojet engine. Specifically, the same engine used in the T-38 trainer.
Oh, my dream car is close the Daytona, the GT-40.

Dangit skuzzy, too quick for me. :(

First rail I ever sat in was parked at the corner of my Dad's old auto parts store back in the early sixties (62, if I recall). Belonged to an upcoming driver named Don Garlits. I have that picture somewhere.

You know it recently went up for auction, was on TV. I forgot the price but it was estimated at $12,000,000 +
And you know there is only 1 real one in existence right?
It is an awesome car, and I'd love a regular 67 Shelby 427,
but my real dream car is Lamborghini Countach LP500S

Uh ... no. All 6 1/2 of them are still out there, 1 1/2 4 miles away from my house :D

Pratt and Whitney built something very similar, the biggest problem they had with it was the exhaust destroying the asphalt because of the heat.

There are 6 originals (and all still intact/restored or in various states of being restored). 1 was built from a 427 Cobra that burned in a fire and it was the unofficial 7th one. I have the photos and serial numbers of the one that burned and was remade into a Daytona.

Yes, it is a jet dragster!

Whats not to like, 4 second 1/4 mile times at 300+ mph!
Best part, you bring it back, pack the chutes, fill it up with a ton of kerosene and do it again!
(The engines are stock, well, not counting the afterburner, and will usually go on forever in something like this, awefully hard to rack up hours at 2 minutes a pop.)

Meh, the older Skylines are secksi as hell but unless you have a bajillion dollars to dump in them they are kinda slugs.
You guys all aim too high, dream cars are more fun when they're attainable. Already owned one of my cheap'o white trash dream cars. Some others that are possibilities for the future include a 91/92 Firehawk (any will do, but one of the 3 with an aluminum block would be better, a 91/92 B4C/1LE, a 97 SS 30th anniversary(preferably LT4), or even though I would never hear the end of it a Terminator would make me smile as well. The best thing is they are all within the realm of possibility.
I used to really want a Holden Monaro or Commodore, right hand drive, LS1, 6-speed just to be different. But then they brought the Monaro to the US put the steering wheel on the other side, and called it a GTO which blew the mystique for me. But the GTO is a nice car and tons of fun to drive.

which is funny because his WRX smokes all them, but it's modded to hell.
As for mine that's just it a dream. A car i could have realistically and would like to have is a white C5 ZO6. Already have a 01 Z28 so anything i get after this extra.

6 1/2 Skuzz, Miller Motorsport Park has the "1/2" that was never completed, just a shell.
Frenchy, I was not disputing you.
There were 6 official production Daytona Coupes. Serial #'s: CSX2286, CSX2287, CSX2299, CSX2300, CSX2601, and CSX2602. CSX2287 was the first one delivered.
There was the mule car (no serial number) at Shelby's Venice facility, where Pete Brock did the design, and the body molds were hammered out there. The mule was a shell mostly made of wood, hand covered in aluminum. It was used to get the final design done. That may be the 'shell' you are talking about. All the photos, I have on hand, are from the original era when they were being built/designed.
The unofficial 7th car was built for Lynn Park, in 1991, by Mike McCluskey from the burned out hulk of Cobra CSX2405 (2405 was a street version Cobra). Mike also is responsible for the restoration of Daytona's CSX2299, CSX2300, and CSX2602. CSX2602 was used to make the molds for kit car company Contemporary and thier Daytona kit.

I have the pictures of the three cars in Mike's shop in Torrance while they were being restored. The serial numbers were marked on every piece of the external sheet metal to make sure none of them would end up with the wrong piece.
Of course, that would have been difficult as all 6 of the Daytona's were slighty different. One of them (I do not have the serial number with me) had its cowl raised 2 inches when being built in Italy. The Italians thought it would look better. :) Dan Gurney loved that car as it had more head and foot room than the other 5.
I had read about the guy building his own. I had forgotten it though. Thanks for the links.
One of these days, when I can get a scanner hooked up to my computer at home, I will have to start a thread about the history of the entire Cobra/GT-40 effort. I have some really rare photos.

if you want a street able turbo car that can put out 700Hp to 1000Hp + there are plenty of places in the Houston area that can do that. I have an 80mm garret for my z28, not sure when it's gunna make it in but that should let me hang with at least half the cars here. 500hp on your street car in Houston is good enough to at least take it out an not get completely embarrassed.

Very Nice!! Oh to have the cars back that we sold!!
Heres a good Mopar story for ya, When my wife was born, my Father in Law had to sell ( piece by piece ) His 70 RoadRunner to pay for all the hospital bills. Ive only seen pics of it but man was she sweet. Her dad and my best friends father use to race back in the 70s when they were young(he had a 70 Corvette ) and my father in law use to wipe his *$&% in the dirt every time.
I would always laugh with my father in law, and ask him if we could sell her and try to get the RoadRunner back. He told me if i could locate it, he would honestly consider it :D
-
One day I'll have another one. Totalled one as a teenager, always wanted to get another one. Hell, I'm 32 now lol.

you would be suprised at how under powered the delorean is
You don't buy a DeLorean for power....you buy it cause it's smexy. Always loved the look of the DeLorean (been looking at used ones for many years). It I ever have the money I'd love to get one of the new ones with an upgraded engine (197HP) and some other upgrades internally for comfort/safety someday, but the base cost is about 55K and with the upgrades I would like it would be 64K. :)
But if we're dreaming it's choice #1 for me. Choice #2 is hard to choose, I love older muscle cars and some newer sports/muscle cars (little pickier there, personally hate the looks of so many cars today).
I won't complain with my current ride though, just an average Scion tC '08. Handles quite nicely up to 125mph, never tried faster since our old country roads seem to like turning before I can get any higher (illegal yes, but I makes sure the roads are clear before doing anything stupid so as not to put anyone else in danger). :)

I guess I'm an SUV man. :)

Ive always had a thing for the NSX, perhaps because its a realistic "super car" that I very likely could actually eventually own, plus unlike most of those type of vehicles, you could drive it everywhere every day, get it serviced at any honda dealership, gets reasonable gas malage...
You can have your cake, and do power slides in it too.
I bought a MR2 spyder to get me by in the mean time, not quite the same, but still fun

Always wanted an Aston Martin Vanquish or a DB9.

Information in the picture says this car is unique. It may not be. There were 2 (out of 69 made) ZL-1's with the RS option package, numbers 54 and 55. Although I am not sure if the vinyl top and engine badging were part of the RS package. If not, this car could truly be unique.

True that, course, I ain't even got a truck. Can't mudd go where I wanna in my car, and I'm always too cautious driving someone else's truck, so it isn't as fun, cause if I break somethin on it then... :bolt: (hell, 2 weeks ago, I was with a buddy of mine, and he smashed his rear end into a rock or something he couldn't see in the mudd, messed the whole rear end up.)

nice :aok the SSKs are really sweet too

RTHolmes, do not tell anyone that new Porsche is a hybrid. It is still a concept car though.
Yes, those wheels are a polymer based transparent wheel.

That's pretty cool, I geuss that negates the term 'alloys' right off the bat

3kGT VR-4 is also high on my list as a dream car. I'd have to disagree about the Stealth being a suitable replacement, pretty much the same car, but soooo very different.

eeek! 3000GT has a rep as a complete dog of a car, looks quite cool in a 80s/90s way tho...
