I had been keeping an eye open and an ear to the ground for a release date but this one totally slipped up on me. I saw today on Steam that it came out 2 days ago but I wanted to know if anyone else has gotten it and played it. I enjoyed the first one and the expansion pack so I was wanting to check this one out as well.

Oh wow I totally forgot about SC2! Looks like I need to fire up my old UEF ACU and get to whacking some enemies. :D
-
It's a really good game, not quite as good as the original but still fun to play. It's the 2nd RTS the company I work for has released.

Does SC2 use alot of the old SC interface options and commands? What made SC great was the fact that I didn't have to micromanage every single unit in the field like C&C used to do. I loved being able to tell an engineer to repair anything in this area and it would do it as long as it lived, or set aircraft on a patrol loop where they would defend, attack, and rearm with no input from me.

I've been almost hitting the 'buy' button on steam but decided to read some reviews first. It looks like they stripped down the old SC quite a bit taking away a lot of its originality. No more energy harvesting, smaller maps, half-automated engineering, etc. They say it's more in the league of C&C now! A fast playing, action oriented classic RTS.
Back on the fence again...

I loved the large maps and all the extra stuff you had to do in the first SC. Maybe on the fence about this as well until the price comes down.
-
SC was awesome in how the maps expanded for each mission. I loved a mission map would usually be 4-6 times it's original size once you ended the mission. It made building forward bases and supply lines worth wild.

I regret buying it. They've "consolified" it. Compared to the original this felt like a kiddy game. I hate Gas Powered now.
-
Sveno bought it over Steam yesterday, he said it lacked mapping tools at the moment.
For the guys who played part 1 and forged alliance Sveno made the map Battleisles ;)

Big SC1 fan here :aok
I tried the demo, and it sucks. After finishing the tutorial I cut the game and played a Forged alliance game.
Thank you square enix for killing one of the best PC games, I am so disappointed :cry

Isn't Square Enix just the distributor. Gas Powered made the game as far as I know.

Gas Powered Games are the developers, we just published it. Also, there is nothing "consolified" about the game, so not really sure where that came from. Most of the changes were a result of player feedback after the first game and not to make it simplified for consoles and then ported to the PC.

That's how it felt like. Whether it was actually made for consoles or not is not really relevant... it's just as bad and simplistic as if it was.
In my experience developing a game based on player feedback is almost never a good thing in gaming. I can just imagine we'd be flying X-wings in the MA if all the squeakers got a say in how AH was made.

Uhm, aren't those CHogs? :bolt:
(blast from the past when CHogs 'ruled' the skies...)
