I do not understand the reasoning behind the perk system.
If you are trying to limit the number of a particular type in the air, then limit the number available.
AND WHY PERK THE F4us AT ALL ?????????????
(doesn't matter if they're fast..they were ALL fast..-1 thru -4...and why perk the -4)
and whats up with B-17s and Lancs outrunning
F4us?
my 2 cents

The only 17 or Lanc thats outrunning an F4u is either wingless descending vertically, or the F4u has engine off flaps out and gear down
If you'd seen the F4U-1C whines you would know why its perked. The F4U-4 handles better and is faster than most of the planeset, perhaps 60 perks is too much yes, but it still should be perked nonetheless.

I haven't flown the F4U-4 yet, but if they model it right, it should have similar performance to the Tempest, except that it's better at high altitudes.
-
Well, i dont care about whines...
You still didnt answer my question...why is it perked? And why is the 4 perked? The handling of ALL the F4us was good. Grumman even borrowed one to see if they could make the Hellcat handle as well. The D was not the Dog it is in this sim.
If you are basing this on performance, then perk ALL planes based on formula.
I could whine about the 109s not being perked, or the la7, or the magic spit, etc....but im not. They are not perked, the f4us should not be either.
And the Lancs and B-17s most definitely do outrun F4us...15-20k, buffs slightly nose down, f4u level, wep. Impossible
Anyway, if the perk system is not changed..i will stop paying my 15 bucks.

You may as well keep your $15 and go away if that's the entire basis of your threat.
C-Hog = blue, incredible firepower, great high speed handling, massive ordinance, CV capable = 8 perks.
D-Hog = same as above without the incredible firepower (though I think all those .50's work just fine, ask any P51 driver) = 0 perks. Oh, and it has a little arrow on a wing to remind you which end is front incase you forget.
8 perks is such a pathetic amount anyway. The D-Hog will make you a better pilot, the C-Hog will make you reliant on 4 cannons.
btw, in your reference to the Grumman people getting a Corsair, it also worked the other way around. The govt made them give a Hellcat back so to try and help with the terrible stall/landing characteristics of the Corsair. The Hellcat was considered far superior in these respects. I have the article you read this from somewhere but you didn't mention the second part.
B17/Lanc out-running a fighter at 15K... I'd love to see that. Be patient for 1 minute and you'll own the bomber if you are level, regardless if he's diving or not. If he is diving he's just delaying the outcome, not changing it.

The 1D is one of the most versatile aircraft in the game. Nice fuel load, huge ordinance load, launches from carrier, good speed, good roll, great dive, and fantastic gun package. This plane is a great BnZ killer.
If you believe that the F4u-1D is a "dog" in the MA, then the problem is you and not the plane.

To say an F4u handles like a hog proves your lack of knowlage or, lack of experience in the plane and/or in AH, the F4u is one oft he absolutely best planes in the game, nomather it's the 1, 1D or 1C, not to mention the U4 wich is Fast, climbs good and keeps E like a space rocket (OK, not quite as the Niki, but very very good!) :D
Now, to your question to limit the planes by number instead, how fun do you think it would be to enter the arena, just to see "all" 20 F4u4's, or 5 Me262's or TA152's to be busy, or allready spent, personally, I'd be pretty upset if people had allready spent the limit of the day before I got in a got a chance to fly them, much rather pay some for them, or rather, borrow some for a while.

Soda...
First of all, I'm pretty sure i shot you down in my old corsair....
Second..my whole question was NOT how to fly the plane..The question was...WHY ARE THE F4u's PERKED WHILE THE OTHERS ARE NOT. Try to address the question.
Third..as far as the history goes...you better re-read that article
Last...
I would like to see the following changes made to the perk system...
1. add a perk point for arriving safe on deck
2. if you command the cv or issued its current path and it gets sunk..you lose ALOT of perks !!
3. EVERY plane be perked based upon performance...not just a few.
Check All Aspects

I really love 1.08
New planes, new features, and more fools.
-
Streek,
The F4U-1C and F4U-4 are perked when others are not because of their capabilities.
The "magic" Spit (BS) is a 1942 aircraft that can do a whopping 321mph on the deck. A well flown F4U should rarely lose to any AH Spit.
The same is true for the N1K2. Its so slow that an intelligently flown F4U will eat it for lunch 4 time in 5.
Which others are you particularly refering to? I can answer better then.

Karnak
Do you work for AH?
Anyway..i understand what you are saying. I have shot down quite a few Spits in my old F4u.
The F4u-1 is my favorite. It seems to actualy perform closer to what I would expect a Corsair to do.
But I have flown the D alot...and the C in this sim. probably more than most. And mostly all i see is LA7's, Spits, and Hurries...
(I also see alot of 109s, but i have no beef with the 109) cause they got big guns and turn like crazy. The Spit can do some really questionable turns without bleeding much E.
I also flew the Spit a bit in the CA. Its Uber..no doubt about it. Not complaining, just saying that if you perk my old dog F4u then perk the Spits, Hurries, and LA's the same.
Theres reality (history) and this sim..2 different things. It just seems unfair to perk the F4u and NOT perk some of the others.
I happen to enjoy flying the F4u-1 ...my favorite ride. You think we could get the -1a with the bubble canopy?

PS..and yes,,if there are not adjustments to the perk system..i will leave. I love 1.08 tho.

F4U-1 Unperked, its the earliest variant, not so fast.
F4U-D Fast, nice firepower, manouverable. Not perked
F4U-C Same as the D-Hog but carries FOUR 20mm Hispano's and a HUGE amount of ammo to shoot with them. Its perked BECAUSE of its guns.
F4U-4 Perked for the same reason the Tempest is perked. Its speed makes it virtually untouchable by the rest of the planeset. Add that to the fact that it IS an F4U and thus very maneverouble, and you got a murderously unbalancing plane if left unperked.
-
LOLOL Streek, you say perk planes based on performance and then say perk hurri's and spits? LOLOL
Spit turns good when slow, accelerates well, and has probably the LOWEST drag coefficient in RL as well as the MA(re its e retention)
Hurricanes, SLOWEST fighter in the arena, nuff said. A Zeke will catch it at any alt.
The Chog was accounting for something in the region of 20% or more of the kills in the arena, because of its guns, good hi speed handling, good roll etc. The whines echoed from the far east to the infidels in the west! Thats why it was perked.
Perking anymore of the current planeset is a STUPID idea. Perking the CHog created a dangerous precedent, which I think HT and Co. realize. The CHog originally wasn't perked, but the community created such a rukus that it was perked at a small amount.
If every plane were perked cuz of the whines we would all be in C47's. When the apparently "uber" ride (the one seeing the most use) is perked, GUESS WHAT? something else ALWAYS takes its place. Every sim has their uber rides, any sim that makes attempts at a realistic FM will have this occur.
The F4U-1 is what? a 1942 aircraft or something? Do you think it should be able to hold its own with the 1945 monsters?

I agree. Variety is good.
