This aint asking much, how about a front-only mounted 13mm for a little dogfighting? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
-
Again LW starts to whine... Sheeess...
Ju-88 is NOT a dog-fighter... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
-
you should be asking for a ju88c6 (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
-
Or a C-4, which is the easiest variant of A-4.
-
Umm, but the ju-88 _has_ a front mounted MG...

You know fighter jocks. Just because a plane has better wing loading and front mounted machine guns doesn't mean it should be able to kill Fighters.
They'd grip if the Mossie was added too, in the bomber version.

That mg is there for shooting birds.
If some lousy gull sits on your planes tail you can at least scare it away with those two other mg's (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Have somebody ever shoot down a plane with those two mg's anyway ?

Another 7.92mm ventral gun was replaced by 13mm gun in A-4 series.
Existing planes had field conversion kit and later production models had factory installed 13mm ventral gun.
(and I am talking about A-4 version here)

So the Germans finaly got the gun power up to match a better bomber, the Italian S.M.79.....
:-)
(as I duck and run for cover, but the S.M.79 was fully aerobatic, was the Ju88?)

well MC202 The JU 88 was able to withstand up to 5G pull ups from their dive bombs .. that's prety mcuh what i'd call fully aerobatic (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) (with only inverted flight being limited by engine oil supply)
-
What the heck then? Just add the 13mm as a gun loadout option BUT make it so that the ju88 wont take bombs if it has that loadout.
I would LOVE to see the Ju88 fighter, Mossie and Me110 here.. there's something about fighters with tailguns I like very much (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
BTW, I had a friend put his spitfire at d200 behind my ju88 and I fired away at him. took more than HALF the fricken ammo just to make the spit start smoking... then the other half to shoot him down.
Ju88 guns are either badly modeled or the germans liked to take bb guns on their planes. I dont even want to think what would happen if an enemy fighter jinked while it shot at you...

Fishu musta näytti lähinnä kakskasi vastaan kakstoista?

Tac,
I did the same thing, but it only took him a fraction of his ammo to blow my Spit Vs wing off.
When I did a real attack using a Spit IX I blew him apart, but he put a hole in my radiator and you know what that means for a Spit.
The Ju88s defensive fire is inadequte, but I still wont do a dead astern attack on one.
Bring on the 13mm guns if they were as common as is being saud here. Maybe reduce the bombload by 100 kilos or slightly reduce performance if the 13mm guns are taken.

Guys! 13mm replacing 7.92mm DID NOT EFFECT on bombload, because it was changed in the cockpit, from the ventral gun position.
Besides, it was defensive gun for shooting backwards.
Generally 13mm gun does only add weight for a bit, but not that much it would be something. (and AH counts weapon weights)
By the way, there were also A-4's with single 20mm forward firing cannon.
Finnish Air Force had one of those 28 Ju-88's with 20mm cannon.
(and yes, it did also carry normal loadout, because gun was placed in cockpit area, not in the bombbay)
Ju-88 fighter which had *reduced* bomb load, did have 20mm cannons (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Not just 13mm....

Not just 13mm....
only reason the bomb load was reduced was because thegun pods took up the forward bomb bay. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I've gotten a few kills with the Ju88's forward firing gun. I killed a P-47 in a HO shot. Musta been a pilot kill. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Oh sorry, I thought the ju88 NIGHT FIGHTER had 13mm...
well, whatever it had, give it the option to either carry bombs with the current weapon loadout OR give it the fighter-mod guns but dont allow it to carry bombs (the whole point is to have it as a fighter!).
-
What you want is a zerstorer version: C-4 or C-6, a heavy day fighter with 3x20mm, 3x7.9mm and a small bombload.

That was in the C models, not in A-4
In A-4 there is 13mm gun in ventral position.
Also some A-4's (yes you read correct and I do also) had 20mm in the nose (not in the bombbay).
I should get that one book again with the picture of that 20mm sticking out in the nose.
So, no payload effects in those two configurations.
Though, those ones with loads of machineguns cannons etc. are those other than A models ..
