Is the 251 more resistant to bombs than bullets? A couple of cannon bursts and poof. :noid

The first bomb takes out both tracks and they remain that way (no supplies) through the time of the second bomb strike.
The second one lands almost on top of him and doesn't even smoke the engine. :cry

Moral of the story: Save your bombs and gun them down.
This is very true. I've been hit with 500lb bombs and lost one track and conversely strafed, by anything, and gone poof very easily.

I don't think there resistant enough to tank fire they put angles all over the thing to induce ricochets.

This vehicle has armoured sides but an open, soft, top. Tracks are a weak spot. The engine is in front and protected. Anything above .30 or .50 may pierce the armour in the right angle... An explosion blast and schrapnel, may damage it. Two or three .50 rounds from above and it explodes...
Cheers,

The armor was to protect the troops inside from arms fire from infantry. It was never designed to withstand any kind of tank fire.

plus it can carry a lot of supply's to fix any damage.

The cannon burst probably killed the driver whereas the driver was protected from the bomb blast by the side armor. Cannons or MG from above can easily kill driver which then kills the GV. Same concept of a pilot kill in the plane, even though the plane has little to no damage, you kill the pilot, the plane explodes.

Sometimes armor works. ;)

Angled armor will make 80mm armor act like 100mm armor but if your armor is only 20mm thick and its angled it might act like 25-30mm armor but that still cannot ricochet an ap round.

first, what kind of bombs were these?

That armor is thin to provide protection from small arms fire.

250 kilo (@550 lbs). The second one (closer of the two) would have killed a Panzer 99/100 in game.

The Sd KFZ 251 Was an amored personnel carrier designed to protect the infantry and crew from small arms fire and frgments from bombs and artillery fire . The armor at it's thickest which was the lower hull was only 14.5 mm thick. At best it stopped 7.62 rounds and 50 cal rounds at a distance. It's job was to carry troops and protect them up to a distance of about 1500 t0 a 1000 meters of direct combat situations and then give supporting fires with it's mg. Cannon fire would kill it right out anything from 20mm on up. Bombs would do the same damage depending on the range from the blast. I don't know how the blast damage is modeled in the game but a bomb hitting the ground spews more shrapnel up than out the closer you get to the impact due to the funneling effect of the crater it makes, so it is feasible hower unlikly for the vehical to survive realtivly intact by a near miss from a bomb..

Dropped a cookie from a lanc on one of these, about 10-20 feet from it, and it kept driving.

Last night, I hit a stationary 251 dead center (he was surrounded by the crater) with a 250 kilo bomb and he continued to fire rockets at the town.
Dropped two more from my trusty B5N2 right next to him and zilch. Another player bombed him and then strafed him. The strafing killed him and gave me an assist. :headscratch:
The next sortie, dropped a T-34 on the run with one 250 kilo bomb which wasn't nearly as close as the drops on the 251. BOOM - piece of cake.
The 251 re-ups and someone else bombs him to no avail. Next pass, he strafes him and BOOM.
Going to test offline to see if it happens there too...
