Title: typographic change for Spitfire MkIX to Spitfire MkIX F
Post by: Citabria on September 28, 2000, 11:04:00 PM
we have the P-47 D25 and P-47 D30. the vagueness of the spitfire IX title for the AH spit9 is to general and could be taken as representing a spitfire IX HF, IX F, or IX LF

clarify the nature of the Aces High spitfire as a true Spit IX F

I think the correct name would be Spitfire F.Mk IX

But I think Spitfire FR.Mk XIVe sounds much nicer, don't you?

I don't know Juzz, I'm a little partial to Spitfire F.Mk XIV.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I like having the 2 20mm cannon and 4 .303 maching guns option.  More bullets in the air is pretty.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I'm going to go with "Ginger" Lacey on this one and hope for a "razor back" Spitfire XIV.

(I'd obviously accept the FR.Mk XIVe without complaint)

Bring 'um on.

Us 190 drivers are used to fighting superior planes.

Basically, we compensate by being superior pilots.

with this clarification of the spit F Mk IX...

HTC could then easily add perk plane...
a spitfire LF MkIX with the merlin 66 engine.

the malta spit idea in another thread is interesting... a spitVc(T) w 4 20mm but with poor performance and heavy weight due to big sand filter installed under the nose.

Perk this one:

Boscombe Down Early 44 LF IX JL165
Merlin 66, full span wings, 7,400 lbs 150 octane fuel allowing +25 pounds boost for periods not exceeding 5 minutes.
In order to improve the IXs performace it was recommended that 150 octane fuel be used, thus permitting increased boost. For this modification the engine mounting had to be strengthened; a 24-25lb boost gauge fitted; a throttle gate fitted to limit boost to 18lb if the aircraft was refueled with 100 octane and a gate limiting boost to 14 1/2lb fitted to prevent 25lb being used for take off. The exhaust manifolds burned out rapidly but the shorter life was accepted by the RAF.

Performance test with 150 octane fuel

Height Top Speed Time to climb mins Rate of Climb ft/min
2,000 360 0 m 25 s 4,725
4,000 364 0 m 50 s 4,730
6,000 364 1 m 15 s 4,735
10,000 370 2 m 6 s 4,745
13,800 389 . 4,350
20,000 388 4 m 30 s 3,450
30,000 380 8 m 17 s 1,950

that would be a great perk plane for sure

spit LF MkIX  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I still think the malta spit would be another awsome perk plane  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
desert camo and a big old sand filter with the performance of a spit1 and 4 20mm  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

They didn't all have the 150 octane though.  Perk the 150 octane, leave the standard one alone!!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

funked, those LF.IX climbrates don't look quite right - they are far too low. At +25lbs the climbrates would be something more like these I think.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

juzz,
Ooh, neat numbers.  What fantasy novel did you get them from?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
