Well, the last thread got locked (understandably), so I figured that we need a thread for our fellow AHer's that have canine companions. Hopefully, the trolls won't screw this one up... Please, if you don't have anything nice to say... Well, you know the rest.

Wow, I think Pebbles has figured out how to get the pet humans to give up the treats!

Nah, the trolls will not screw up this thread as they will get bumped from the bulletin board if they do.
-
Absolutely! We had the world's best black lab, Bailey, when we decided to get Bam. Within 6 months of getting Bam, Bailey died of lymphoma. Bam turned into an emotional wreck, he'd lost his buddy from 8 weeks old. So we got Pebs. Bam eventually leveled out and now the two are the most co-dependent dogs I've ever seen.
Crazy as she is, she hates flying, but Bam loves it.

Oh yeah, AHer's Cat pics would be welcomed as well. Heck, let's just make it an AHer's pet thread and call it good. Any animal that you claim as a family member is welcome.
Does anyone on here have a Raccoon?
ALL PET PICS APPRECIATED!

Heres my dog, her name is Cheyenne, she's a 140lb pure bred Yellow Lab, she's registered with the AKC, I have papers on her going back 10 generations. She's big & her bark is loud, but she's really a big baby.

:lol funny you should mention cats. My next door neighbor is a exotic animal dealer and he tryed to sell me a 1 yr old african lion last summer. It was just starting to get its mane. I'd say it was close to 300 lbs already :rock He was asking 500 bucks for it :x Wife said no.
I've had 2 pets coons and the wife made me get rid of them. They were dangerous. I was training dogs with them so petting them would get your fingers bitten off.
-
Cheyenne is one happy lookin' dog. Goes to show ya, every moment that you spend with them is the happiest moment of their lives.
Keep em coming!

Got my puppy at 9 weeks old and have always treated her as a dog - you responsible dog owners know what I'm talking about :aok.
Now she's 3 years old. She rarely barks...and then only one or two woofs; never chews on what's not hers, and the only human she has ever put her teeth on is me - my hand is her favorite toy; the toy that plays back :D. She knows just how hard to grab and when I say it's enough...she happily quits.
First picture when I discovered my new digital camera had a close-up mode:

Great pics all the way around!!
Thanks so much for starting this thread again, I hate that the other one was ruined. A good part of that was my own fault though, for biting back, so sorry for that.
At any rate, thanks for posting the pics, I love seeing them (especially the Rotts and Pits, my two favorites, but any happy dog is great).
I'll try and get some good new pics of Sadie in the next week, she's already getting so muscular, she's just gorgeous and as sweet as can be. In the next month or so it'll be time for her first puppy training class. I'm so excited for her, and for me as well.
Thanks for the part deux!!

madda, was you able to right click on that pic i made for you and save it? if not i still have it if you would like a copy of it.
such handsome puppies on here guys! no matter how big or small, they all have one thing in common, they are all very well taken care of and seem very much happy.

Yep, I got it and saved it Betty, thank you! I really appreciate it.
It's crazy to me how much Tank looks like Cadence, though he looks taller and leggier than Cadence, and not as stocky I don't think.

These pics are of my two beasts. They were taken not too long after I got them, about a year and a half ago. Both dogs are from a shelter. Hope was abused in her former life she is missing an eye because someone thought she made a good target for their pellet gun. Goober was born in the shelter, and he makes me laugh every day.
I'll try and get some more current pics if I can get them to co-operate.
Hope, she is just so sweet I can't fathom how someone could ever hurt her.

That is kind of funny. I wonder where the name for that town came from. I named my guy after the Marx brother. My first dog I ever had as an adult out on my own was a Rottweiler that I named Groucho. I'm a fan.
Edit: Hehe Dnya, that's an 80 pound dog stuffed in a 40 pound dog's body. Great pics man, that close up made me smile too!

Very nice dogs!

I love bulldogs - so ugly they're cute!
That picture of Hope...really makes me mad. I've never had second thoughts about dropping the gloves against anyone, but I just can't see how people could hurt an animal. Just enrages me.
I'm glad she's got a happy home - she's seems to be a happy pup.

I wish the "abusers" received the identical treatment of the "one's affected". It pisses me off when reading about animal abuse. Not trolling, I just cannot comprehend how anyone with a conscience could do that to begin with. SIK1, I'm glad Hope went to a good home and that pic while hurtful, still shows that she has some compassion. :rock
Excellent post/pictures people, please continue posting!
Ian's now 8 (our only child before I got the Vasectomy in July) and we had a Bluetick Coonhound Rescue dog for 5 months. We had to return him. We tried everything possible within reason, but if any Man came into the room, he'd cower and shiver or run into another room. He loved Ian and the wife, but no matter how softly I spoke, he'd try to avoid me. We'd leave for 30-45 minutes and crate him, he'd poop and pee every time.
So now we're looking at a dog for him. We dog sat for my wife's sister a couple of weeks ago and Ian loved palling around with the dog. Running in the snow with him, feeding him and playing catch with him. So it seems he's ready for the responsibility of his own dog. We're considering a short hair, so maybe a Beagle, Yellow Lab. We have a very large fenced in yard for the city so any dog will have fun.

If hairs an issue don't get a yellow lab, I have one & there's hair all over, especially in the summer they shed like crazy, you have to brush them everyday.
-
Yea, don't get a lab if you're concerned about dog hair. Between our yellow lab and our black lab, we have to vacuum every day. Always enough fut to make a new dog if we wanted to.

K, seriously consider getting a pit man, they're very short hair and not bad shedders, and are very very sweet and loving and super loyal and protective dogs. My girlfriend's daughter is 8 and she is all over ours all the time. They just have a bad rep, they're not really bad dogs. They used to be called nanny dogs in fact. And consider all the good you'd be doing to improve the breed's reputation!

I know. I have a friend who I used to work with at Pfizer that breeds em. He's on 6th generation so far with champion breeding across all lines. I know they get a bad rap, but I don't see my wife going for it unfortunately. I'd like to get a Boxer, but the 6-8 year life span is too short for Ian. It'd crush him.
I'll folks up to date on what we're looking at. A jeep club members' wife is a Veterinarian and offers up docile dogs after they're classes are done with them. We might even go that route.

Yeah that's good too, an adoption is always a good thing. Our current beautiful little girl puppy Sadie is from a breeder who competes in pulling, both her parents are champions too. Not that it means anything really, except that she'll be super strong I guess. I'll see if I can't get a couple of more pics of her this week, she's a knockout!
I'm sure what whatever you end up with it'll be great.

madda i would be happy to do a pic of sadie and cadence for you if you like, i would just need a pic of each of them by themselves.
your right about tank lookin a little bit like cadence. him and his big red nose lol. both of my boys are tall, i think its the bull mastiff part in them. when they step on my foot or lay on me, they squish me hehe. i can't wait for them to fill out more, i think they will be pretty muscular :)
karaya,
boxers are great dogs! im sure no matter what kind of dog you get your little boy will be really happy. Too bad mrs. karaya wouldn't allow the pit though. They are awesome dogs. If you guys make it up this way I would be happy to let her meet my boys. they would only lick her to death hehe.

Anyone's dog afraid of thunder like mine, my dog is a huge 140lb yellow lab, but when it thunders she just turns into the biggest baby, she'll try to hide in any place she can cram herself into, she usually goes into our small bathroom, or she likes my closet, it's kinda funny because you'll see her backside sticking out of the closet and just her head buried in there. It's thundering right now and she's all freaked out & shaking.
-
Both of mine want to be in my lap. Fortunately it doesn't thunder that often around here.

Not making fun, just that expression on her face right there. Makes me smile.

Yes,mine are too and then there's fireworks that absolutely drive them crazy. If I'm watching a war movie and bombs are dropped the whistling sound makes them shake as they equate that to fireworks.
I cage train all my dogs so when it's thundering or fireworks time I send them to their cages and place a blanket over the cage. This is actually comforting to the dogs, afterall if left in the wild they would dig a hole or find a spot that they could crawl into to sleep. Usually I play a radio, softly ,to help drown out the sounds and to help comfort them.
In real bad cases medication is in order, the trembling can generate too much body heat and your dog can go into shock,it's only in these case I'd recommend a sedative.
Not much you can do really, except try to make the dog feel comfortable and secure, that's what the covered cage offers.
BTW,this problem can be contagious, other dogs will follow :aokthe cues from the scared dog and develop the fear themselves, best to separate the dogs if 1 id afraid and the other not!!
:salute
PS: Sik1,it's sad to see what 1 animal can do to another....atleast the dog's in a good home now. :aok

Morph I don't even credit the creep with being as evolved as an animal, more like excrement.
The amazing thing (to me anyway) is that she still loves people.

Yup I agree, the unconditional luv from a dog to it's owner is a real wonder.....Hmmm

After Chesty was killed Cadence suddenly developed a very bad fear of storms. He's got a great insulated wooden doghouse with shingles and everything, but he started forcing himself under the stairs between the house and under side of the stairs. The girlfriend says that he had been afraid of storms before we got together, but when he and Chesty bonded, he stopped being afraid. After Chesty, he's scared again. He's getting better though. Pity the gf won't just let them live in the house, but she can't live with a dog inside all the time. So they sleep in the dog house (which really is quite nice) unless it's freezing outside.
If it were up to me, they'd sleep in the room with us, but then I love dogs, she just tolerates and sort of likes them. She says she loves dogs, she loves her dogs, but I keep telling her, it's not the same...
Still, with Chico here and the new pup to boot, Cadence is starting to calm down again, and that's great for me. Less worrying that I have to do, that big old doofus. I love him.

i think i would be lost without my boys in the house, tank sleeps in his kennel at night cuz he likes to chew things usually anything he can get in his mouth hehe. stuka on the other hand sleeps in my bed with me or with the kids. most the time he is with my son on his bed. that is where he was last night when i fell asleep but then i woke up bout 5am and couldnt move or anything. after a minute of tryin to figure out what was goin on, i realized it was my fat head puppy dog on my bed blocking me from moving, he had pretty much taken over the whole bed! its a queen bed too! lol. so i got up and logged into AH. shortly afterwards, he came out into the living room and seen me sittin at the computer. he looked so lost and seemed so sad. he must have woke up and realized i wasn't in bed lol. when he realized i was at the computer desk, he came up to me all excited, doin his lil "growl talk" to me and wigglin his but like a damn fish lol. it was hilarious!

Got a few new pics today of Sadie and Chico, only one decent one of Cadence, because he's a doofus and always looks away or moves just as you push the button to take the pic. Sadie is somewhat dirty from playing in the part of the yard where the grass simply will not grow, but she's still gorgeous.

Awesome pics guys. My family has had a few dogs (Black labs, chocolate lab) but I'd rather not talk about why that was past tense.
Thinking about getting another...unsure still.

Bailey is almost a spittin image of our dog. Same silly, lay on the back, ok now I'm happy kinda attitude.
How's the Mr. Beer workin for ya?
That's how I started but only lasted like 6 months before I was at the local supply shop buying carboys, blow-off-tubing, airlocks, bottles, sterilizer, priming sugar, Grolsh gaskets, bottles, caps and capper, and grains by the 5 pound bag. Even picked up and old vertical freezer and a thermostat to do some proper lagering.
Now most of it's just sitting in the basement collecting dust. Ugh

karaya,
boxers are great dogs! im sure no matter what kind of dog you get your little boy will be really happy. Too bad mrs. karaya wouldn't allow the pit though. They are awesome dogs. If you guys make it up this way I would be happy to let her meet my boys. they would only lick her to death hehe.
Boxer would be out, simply for the fact that Ian would lose his companion around 6-8 years. It'd suck for me, but it would devastate him.

Here he is, Ross. Hes a Boston Terrier. Craziest little pup we have ever had. I grew up with German Shepards as my dad was a K9 officer. Unfortunatly we just lost our shepard ( old age ) We found this little guy at a local pet shop when we stopped in for crickets for my sons frog. There must have been 30 people in the store, but this pup didnt take his eyes off my son the whole time. We left and went home, told my wife about it and she said that i should have bought him. Well, went back 2 days later with my boy, and same thing, the store was full, but this pup followed my son wherever he went. Needless to say, one of the best purchases this family has ever made. These two are in seperable.
Unfortunatly what i didnt know about these little guys, they can clear a room with 1 fart. wwhhooo weee I mean the smell like a 500lb man 3 hrs after a chili eatin contest :D

Hey Xbrit, my red nose pit Cadence that's pictured up there is probably about half the height of your lab, but he weighs in at 80 himself. Strange the packages that dogs can come in.

Our boy has been such an incredible impact on our family. We had a german shepherd who passed not too long ago, also a collie just before hand. Bailey's been the ultimate family dog, he knows when & how to act when any of us are happy or sad. It's too bad his nose is in command :).
The Mr beer? I havent' started yet............(I know, shame on me)
I found the pic I originally wanted to post, Bailey at 6 weeks, already getting in over his head.
So to speak.

No biggie really. Very nice of you to do, but it's not like I'm demanding or anything you know. I do appreciate the work you did and do, and it really made the girlfriend very happy, so I certainly thank you for thinking of us and doing that for us. But I'm not putting anyone on a time schedule. :)

Great background, almost the color of her skin where the white fur is thin. I'm sure the girlfriend will love it too!
Thanks an awful lot.

Got a question for all you dog people: We just took over taking care of a new dog (was Grandmother's dog) and honestly I have no idea what type of dog he is.
So....
Any ideas? He normally has more fur but we had to shave due to knotted hair.
And we still have our "pup" (close to 6 years old now):

Pure-bred Australian Shep. who doesn't seem to want to get along with the neighbors young Black Lab.....picky. :)

Just got another dog put into our care. @ 6 years old and fits right in except she is the only lady in the house.

11 year old Shamus

9 year old PITA ( no, I didn't name him after the bread)
and the Igs, Spyro and Paul.

I'd guess that it's some kind of a sheltie mix of some sort. Just sort of based on the apparent size and shape and coloration. Not sure at all what it could be mixed with, and my guess at the size could be off too, it's hard to tell exactly in a photo. My .02 for the very little that it's worth.
Dragon, that's a hell of a pack you've got there man! A friend of mine has a great big iguana like that too. Is that bottom one right after shedding? I don't think I've ever seen one with the colors that bright. Good pics guys!

nice pics chef!!! looks like u have a full house for sure!!
if i had to guess what kind of dog that is, i would say its a really BIG palmy! *grin*
not sure what kind it is...i would have to agree with madda and say some kind of sheltie. but he is a pretty boy! ur shephard is pretty!
