That just means the executable cannot find its resources.

There was an error in the main download, not the patch.  If you installed the full installation, you will need to grab it again and reinstall it.

Or the desktop ICON is not pointing to the correct executable.

Glad ya got her fixed Jaeger..  :aok

got a side question here:

why is your DX report showing as "8 cpu's"

or better yet, why does Windows XP/Vista/7 always want to double up on your CPU's? System Memory?  Video Ram?

can they not figure out a proper way to report what a person actually has installed?

even in Aces High it shows up in a multiplied fashion....... ( regarding memory installed / memory available )

I never have seen an answer to this nonsense......

CPU envy?

The i7 cores do have 8 CPU's in them.  4 physical cores with each one having another physical interface to the base silicon.  They can run 8 threads concurrently.

Keeping the i7 cores busy required two interfaces to each one.

CPU envy?  :headscratch: :headscratch: :headscratch:   don't understand this one.......... guess that went over my head  :o

i could only imagine how much stuff one would have to do or  run to keep all 8 cpu's "Busy"............ I  am not up on that Intel stuff..just know Nvidia and Intel are bout to fight it out in court over something or another........

guess those "8" CPUs is what makes it cost so much ???? perhaps

Thanks for the answer to my uneducated question Skuzzy  :aok

OK Skuzzy, I also have an i7 core, but mine only show 4 cpu's.  Why the difference?

Check bios to see if hyperthreading is enabled :)

i build this system myself. its so fast, i can alt-tab out of the game onto my desktop and when i go back into the game it takes 15 seconds to refresh the screen and put it back with full animation.

the game only uses the one processor anyway, but as soon as HTC redesigns the game to use the rest of my processors ill be king of the hill!!  :D

The game is fully multi-threaded and a fix for most of the AMD multi-core CPU's has been in the game for some time now.  If your AMD CPU is still having issues running the game multi-threaded, then it is never going to work.   The work-around in the game came from AMD.  If they cannot get it fixed, then what chance do we have?

OK, I admit I'm a computer dummy and have no idea what hyperthreading is.  I do know how to get into bios, but the last time I did that I had to reformat my hard drive.  If it is a simple change, then not problem, but I guess my question is will changing it make the game run any better and does it effect anything else that I need to know about?  The only issue I have is rubber bullets, and that is only from the field guns, whirbles, and flaks.  Everything else is ok.  My frame rate is solid 60 and my net status is always flat lined.

Jaeger, any reason you went Win 7 32 bit?
you got a monster CPU and memory.....just sitting there not being utilized efficiently me thinks.......

( my old Athlon 6400 X2 3.2 gig dual core and 4 gigs ram lets me alt tab out and back in and am full screen all good edited:  in just 5 to 6 seconds with 20+ vs 20+ up flying... :-/ ..... I am using Windows 7 Ult. 64 bit ..........everything maxed out for detail and shadows set to 4096 with smooth shadowing solid 75 fps 1280x1024 res)  am utilizing between 65 to 84% CPU and 28 to 40% System Memory while running Aces High..... my vid is 512 meg if that means anything...

tweak on that system  ;)

Are you, by any chance, installing the game in the "Program Files" folder?
Title: Re: downloaded latest patch, Smoked AH
Post by: captain1ma on March 12, 2010, 07:24:41 AM
no its installing in the root of C:
Title: Re: downloaded latest patch, Smoked AH

That error occurs because the game cannot find its resources.  This usually means the executable is not where it was installed (i.e. someone dragging it to the desktop will break it), or the resources are not where they are supposed to be.

Installing a one user under Windows 7, then changing users can also cause problems.

Easy way to debug it is to physically navigate to the installation folder and check to make sure the following files are all located in the same folder.

aceshigh.exe
models.res
stdshape.res
htdlg.res
ww1snd.res
sounds.res

While you are there, execute (double-click) "aceshigh.exe" and see if the error occurs.

The patch (2173TO2182) does not work in my Windows 7, either. I also tried it by navigating to the correct directory, even though the default directory is correct. It just doesn't work. My 2173 was a recent fresh install on a new OS.

I downloaded the patch independently (4 minutes) because the in-game patch download speed is almost an hour...

Norton is a very problematic piece of software which usually causes more problems than it solves, especially if your computer has Vista or Windows 7 on it.  Windows XP versions are also impacted.

Unpredictable results is the consistency that is Norton or McAfee.
