Title: Since new patch.
Post by: 4brkfast on March 13, 2010, 09:45:57 PM
I fly the F4U-1A/C and Yak9t quite a bit. The f4u gun's are different, not sure what it was like in life, but before they had a slightly higher convergence elevation upward from the pilots point of view, that was cut by about half since the patch. I miss deflection shots I know I could have hit two weeks ago, I have to pull more lead now. In other words, they are shooting lower than before.

The yak9t goes into a compression-like state after taking damage. Last sortie flown, my left gun and left aux fuel were hit, according to control+d and I lost all control of the airplane(aileron, elevator and rudder). I didn't feel like I was going so fast as I was in a rolling scissors, but I did not immediately catch the speed that I was going. I read the speed indicator a few seconds later, did not read as high as I would have expected compression to take place, especially after rolling and ending up in a shallow dive(as I could not move anything after taking a ping). Is there damage the damage indicator is simply not showing? Otherwise, I was at a loss as to why I suddenly went into a shaking compression-like state immediately after what seemed minimal damage.

Is it possible that your convergence settings were lost somehow? Check in the hanger if it is still at the same setting that you would normally use.

Your yak problem sounds similar to this one (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,285171.0.html).

I've read some of the other posts, seems it isn't happening to just the yak.

The f4u guns are different. I've had them at 275 convergence for months now and I've gotten a pretty good feel to how to hit with the .50s at most speeds. Perhaps the guns are shooting at a slower muzzle velocity? Because that is what it seems like. I feel myself needing to pull a lot more lead to hit. Good proof of this I have found is not so much in a turning deflection, but during a dive - say on a set of buffs. I pull up a bit to level off my guns as I dive(which do not shoot straight like the F6F or P51 guns do, but shoot slightly upward) I am missing shots I -know- would have been right on the money a week ago. I have plenty of film from the months previously and can record some new stuff if needed.

Go offline, take off, type ".target 275" (making sure conv is set to 275 before takeoff). Fly north. fire guns. Do they hit near the center of your gunsight? Or lower?

The guns will hit where they converge, it's not about that. It's no matter, I'll get used to them, I just wasn't sure if the F4U guns were meant to have a different angle or not since the patch. I fly it quite a bit, I noticed right away as did many of my squaddies. Flying straight the guns don't rise as much as they used to, the angle is more acute than it was before.

I noticed same things on p51s. With last patch the phenomenon seemed more such pronounced that i had to put on tracer to understand new bullets fly path. I had a gunsight with a center located a bit below the standard one.
It worked well before the last patch. Now i had to change it. Bullets streams seem to spread in a different way.
Are these things related with 3d vis? I ask this because when i want to fly near the ground i MUST use zoom view.
If not some tree get me!

having a similar problemin the Hogs, Zekes that I've hit instead of exploding are flying away with only fuel leaks. Spits are flying off with maybe flap damage or a missing aileron instead of a wing falling of. even having to to dump half my ammo into hogs to get it to fall apart. Checked convergence to make sure my brother wasn't just messing with me but noticed it in all the 50cal Hogs, haven't notice a difference in the c-hog. not dure if it's an issue or just my head playing with me.

Same here in the F4U-1.  Could be just the pilot though.

Edit: looked at latest film and all were missing low.  So it seems I have to be pulling a lot more lead since before the patch.  Unless it's just in my head or it's a hangover from WW1.

I thought it was my imagination.....but I see others experiencing the same thing.........The hog was deadly at 275 convergence for me....now I can't hit anything. I've been playing with the convergence to try to find what works now,but still am struggling. Has anyone found the sweet spot again?

I've noticed the same thing in the pony. Bullet drop seems to have increased and it takes a lot more lead to hit.
