Title: Different Freeze
Post by: Lacerate on March 14, 2010, 10:30:05 AM

 Well, I took the update.

I freeze immediately upon clicking on the "Online Arenas" selection.

Don't even get to the Firewall message, which usually comes up after I hit the arena connection panel.

Haven't tried anything yet to alleviate it, still examining.

Not seen this one posted yet.

How about offline? Can you get there at all?

The next thing after clicking Online is the game patcher. How long since you've logged on last? We're at 2.18 patch 2 and I'm wondering if you've missed too many patches for it to update automatically.

Hiya Blooz, long time no fly against...

She updated automatically when I went in, no probs on the update side.

Able to get into Offline just fine.   In there now.

Still examining.   Has to happen to someone else too, eventually.

I've never had this, but maybe you should try reinstalling AH?  Apparently that sometimes solves problems.

after an update you have to re-enable your antivirus software to allow the game to connect. Weak computers with a poor connection have this type of an issue too. Takes too long to get the info across and they lock up. If your computer is on the edge and have a crappy connection today it could also cause the problem.

The problem is most likely your firewall asking you if you want to allow AH access. The firewall window will often times be behind the game so you cant see it unless you alt-tab to minimize the game. This is how it's been with zone alarm anyway. However, I can't seem to get ah to minimize to allow me to check the allow button since the new version 2.18 was installed.

Anyone from HTC have an answer to this problem? I can't play on line due to this dilemma.

Folks, your firewall software of choice has a control panel.  You just have to go into it and allow "aceshigh.exe" back through.  This is not something we have any control over.

Skuzzy, Why won't AH minimize when I alt tab to give permission to the firewall to allow AH?
Every time there is a new update I have to set FW to allow AH. Certainly all the updates are AH.exe but there must be more to it than that or it wouldn't ask for permission with each new update. I have set FW to allow AH.exe but it still won't allow it. Are there version numbers in the AH.exe that I need to be typing into the allow portion of the FW?

AH used to auto minimize when the FW came up. It doesn't anymore. I can't even alt tab out of it.  HELP!!!

 ok, here's my update.

I applied patch 3.  Now when it froze upon clicking Online Arenas I was able to see the firewall message in my application bar after hitting the windows key, but still could not move my mouse cursor to select it.  Couldn't see this before.

On my firewall, I don't have to allow AH back through, I have to approve the replacement of the program.

Well, I waited, and applied patch 4.  Now I couldn't see the app bar after hitting the windows key, and the freeze was as it was the first time.

Finally, I realized that since this firewall requires approval of the program being replaced, that the key to the whole thing was the MD5 binary that it keeps track of.

So, I deleted the MD5 binary for aceshigh.exe and started up the game.   And everything was working fine.

  :airplane:

Went back to the firewall's MD5 list, and AH had it's new entry in the MD5 list.

Check that parameter in case your problem is similar.

You should have that firewall turned off when you're playing any game online...if you're worried about getting hacked while you're playing don't...unless you're crazy enough to playing on a corporate/government file server with secure data on it.

Exactly!   :aok  I too always turn off my FW & AV when playing.
