I think the differance between being a good guy versus a bad guy is a bit more complex then whats stated in the poster.

Title: Re: Honor...

Anyone with common sense would have put the father with the kid behind them. Nothing honorable or special about it, just the decent and human thing to do.

If the soldier is good or not, we dont know, we dont know his life story, or if he always will make the correct decisions in life, afterall hes only human.

That picture and statment is too simplified to get all aroused about. Saying things like "The best of the best keep getting better..." with regards to that picture is brainwash.

You mean as opposed to putting them in front like a human shield.

Wait, hold that thought I have to go feed my dogs so they'll continue to love me.

Thats not a picture of a human shield. Just a picture of stupid people not getting out of dodge. Cant you see that they are standing behind the wall, and not infront of him.

Can't we just thank the young and men and women who so selflessly give of themselves?

This isn't about politics or a political point of view...

I am in awe every day of what the young men and women of our armed forces do for us....the sacrifices they make...the integrity of their character and the resolve of their commitment...us civilians can only hope to be judged alongside of such fine individuals...

I salute them...when I buy my coffee...my gasoline...and when I come home from work and my business...

I never stop thinking of them...

I send a fair portion of the money I make directly to them...in the form of such simple things as socks and deodorant...batteries for their for gear...handi-whipes because they haven't showered in two weeks...

Maniac...you miss the point...or actively choose to look the other way...

I salute our TEAM....

Well I have done everything not to get involved...but I think I need to put in my 2 cents.

The poster has nothing wrong with it and I applaud the 2 fine gentlemen in it. The saying is the authors opinion and just that, and there are a lot of people (including myself) that agree with it.

But with that being said, for every person who agrees with it you are gonna find ones who don't. Don't put the man down for believing what he does, just remember if it wasn't for the brave men and women in uniform he wouldn't have the luxury to post replies like he does.

Even if he doesn't live in the USA let him think about the brave men and women in his country who are putting their lives on the line for him.

Also albiet, think of what those servicemen are doing for the father and son.... They are making sure that they will take a bullet first. Granted the father should have his son behind himn, but that's another disertation.

So in closing just remember what you and I think is right and correct to do someone else will think is wrong and incorrect. So all I can say is to each his own.

Lawndart out :bolt:

Here is my view.

Any man, woman or teenager (they are a different species) who has put on a uniform and signed that piece of paper that says I am willing to give my life for the safety of my nation and those who it protects is someone to be respected and revered. They keep us safe and the world free, so what if all this terrorist stuff is a conspiracy and so what if we are there for oil and all these dimensions.

Our men and women of all nations are out there keeping us safe and killing the enemy.

Heroes one and all unless they do something to the contrary.  :salute

PS: To people who criticize the armed forces and say they arent doing their job. Enlist and find out.

must be the west Island.

That sounds about right.. We offer cheap flights there....gets rid of the riff raff.....and we charge a huge amount for accommodation to ensure those West Islander don't stay too long when they come to the good Islands :D :D :lol :lol :lol

Oh yes and I myself believe the child is in the correct place...he has cover on his left and front (this even has a bit of bullet proofing...and cover to his back...this may only stop little bullets, but if it is anymore than that no amount of protection will help.

Of course he wouldn't do it.

He's rooting for the team that would strap explosives to the kid and send him into a crowded market.

Of course he wouldn't do it.

Heck, I'm not for sure if I would even do it, and I'm for the team that blows the team you mentioned into smithereens.  It takes a lot to do what those soldiers do.

And...if the second picture is an example of a bunch of morons that didn't get out of dodge, wouldn't the same go for the poster?

In this, the child is protected by being surrounded by 3 people. The 2 with body armor are in the front which gives the highest chance of survival for the kid. Tell me, in your definition of honor would you risk your life to protect a child, or wave the white flag hoping they dont blow your head off? Any person that puts themself in the line of fire to protect innocent people or a child has honor in my book. But if you insist on the whole conspiracy theory the yes, IT IS A CONSPIRACY AND THEY ARE OUT TO GET YOU!!!!!

 :salute all servicemen

Are you for real.

I ask you the same question.

You're the one talking "brainwash" not me.

You can't even tell good from bad when it's sitting right at the end of your nose.

Since you don't seem to be on our side, that leaves only one other team to root for.

Pacman, my young, gung ho Aussie friend, I volunteered for the military during the Reagan era, and I never signed a paper saying that I was willing to give my life.  One signs up to defend the Constitution, against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Regarding the OP, it is an interesting photo.  I am curious as to the circumstances.  It couldn’t have been that hot as there was a guy shooting pictures.

Brainwash in full effect.
People in the military are not mindless minions.  They are desensitized to the unnatural act of killing other people.  It is not unusual for combat veterans to have psychological baggage for the rest of their lives.  But, to call it ‘brain washing’ is a false, provocative label.

Title: Re: Honor...
Post by: Maniac on March 16, 2010, 05:15:03 PM
I'm not trying to bait you.

Don't mistake my attempt at an objective look at the OP as being disrespectful of those troops in the photo.  They are in harms way.  They are against those who would do harm to the Western way of life.  There is definitely the aspect of protecting US interests.  It would be hard to say that the Taleban, or Saddam Hussein had more benevolent interests than the US.

So, in short:  US = good, Crazed Theocrats (Taleban, Revolutionary Guard) = bad, Crazed Despots = bad.

That sir has nothing to do with the picture or the caption of it. And not the original posters comment. I think we all are in trouble if we are gonna stear this discussion into a political one. And it certainly has nothing to do with my comments in this thread.

Politics?

Not where I was going.  More of a good vs. evil thing.  I will grant that there are gray areas.

As seen from the inside, the US, for the most part, has good intentions.  And, as a major player in just about every aspect of global conflict/competition (economy, science, society, law, entertainment, military, etc.), the US is the obvious target for bashing.

Maybe if you were more "black and white" then people would understand you. It's alright if you don't like the United States or what we're trying to do in the world but you need to state it clearly. Step up and shout it out. Don't mince words. You seem to have a problem stating your opinion.

Let me show you how it's done.
