Some how i killed my pci-e video card.
So rather than replace it I have ordered stuff to build out a new PC.
This is going to take me a bit since I am taking my time on the build
in the mean time i have my on board nvidia geforce 6150le
This on board unit worked fine in the past
I ran a dxdiag an dfound out something interesting
there is one dll that has a yellow triangle next to it
The file d3d9d.dll is a debug version, which will run slower than the retail version
not sure if this is the problem
my symptoms .
The normal problems
frame rates around 25-30
In a GV tank turret very slow , even firing the objects are hesitating like in slow motion

Turn off all advanced view options except 'bump map terrain'.
Set textures to no higher than 256.
It is recommended you keep resolution at or below 1280X1024.
Make sure anti aliasing is set to 'application controlled' on your video's control panel, and the AA slider in AH set all the way to the left (none).
You might also need to turn off skins.
-
What he said.
-
In addition to the above, I'll add "... and save your pennies for a new PCIe card!" because using onboard is a stop-gap solution with gaming. Better than nothing, but not by much.
-
OK I tried these settings earlier in the week from the video suggestions and will test when I get home.
I have shutdown services to the bare min also
I am worried about the above highlighted dll that says Problem ? on my dxdiag output.
Is that a problem?
Also where is the frame rate adjustment at .
In earlier versions we where able to throttle that
also should I be using the game profile on the nvidia controller or should i be setting these adjustments in the main display area also .
Thanks in advance

also backing off on your current HW Accel Level
HW Accel Level: Full
from FULL to Standard (3/4)or Basic (1/2) will free up some processing power to help your onboard video situation, the onboard HD Audio chip being set at FULL will cut a chunk out of your available CPU ........ just a suggestion......
I believe this file, might be from the directX9 SDK package.....
d3d9d.dll

Uninstall the debug version you installed? It should be under Add/Remove
programs as the debug versions are installed manually, i.e. it sounds like
you installed the DirectX SDK instead of the DirectX runtime and switched
to the debug version using the DirectX control panel.
Find the DirectX control panel under Start->Programs->Microsoft DirectX
SDK->DirectX Utilities->DirectX Control Panel. Follow the directions here
for switching back.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb205583.aspx
If you got the debug files some other way then follow the removal procedure
from there.
hope this helps......

Where is the adjustment at for the hardware acceleration for the onboard audio?
-
i know how to drop acceleration for video
but I have never seen a setting for audio.
Just wanted some clarification
-
when you run a dxdiag report.......... click on the sound tab, and it should show you a slider
as well as tell you where it currently is at ( IE..... FULL ACCEL )
it will show you 4 settings on the slider bar:
all the way left: no ( none ) accel ---> this is 1st notch/setting
basic accel ---> this is 2nd notch/setting
standard accel ---> this is 3rd notch/setting
all the way right: full accel ---> this is 4th notch/setting
hope this helps
