Title: How long to introduce a new plane?
Post by: Boxboy on March 18, 2010, 05:11:34 PM
The subject is asking Pyro or Hitech to give a time frame for producing a new aircraft, from inception to conclusion NOT when new aircraft will be done.  What I am wondering is what the work load for that is, discounting of course all the "other" duties the crew has to do.

I believe the question asked is not when or how long till new planes but merely how long does it ussually take for the crew to create and model a working aircraft in the game. For example is the time spent making the p51 roughly the same as the zero? or are there odd variables that make it impossible to tell how long it would take to measure the rough time it takes to create a plane.

I wonder what their process of research for planes they add. Does any of them go and fly the real deal?

Erm... in most cases "the real deal" is not available to fly....

and while we are all doing our best to make Hitech rich, I don't think even he has the money to cover the insurance to fly the few that ARE left available.

Back on topic, I love to see what goes into building a plane for the game Going from "idea" to flying it in the arenas. I think it would make a pretty cool documentary. Anyone know someone in Hollywood that can get this going?  :D

Well, when I was developing my new sim and it took me just about 2 weeks to model and develop a new aircraft type. That is until I ran into some financial troubles, would anyone like to contribute? If so e-mail me your bank account numbers and I'll give you some stock in the Sim.

All jest aside I'm sure its quite a workload but a fun and rewarding one.

That sort of info is business sensitive.  Not the sort of thing you want potential (and current) competitors to know.  HTC does a very good job maintaining their proprietary data.

This question really can not be answered because there are so many variables that go into the question, the only answer really is , it depends on ............................. ............;

And no, I am not going to tell you what the depends are, so don't ask.

It probably depends on if they are working with an active model or they have to start from scratch.  For example, the P47M project probably didn't take as long as say the brewster or i16.  Also, I'm sure it helps when you have guys like Greebo who will skin for you as you finish up the model so it's one less thing you have to worry about.    :aok

I remember pyro giving a rough estimate once in a post that was related to someone complaining about the fact that they made a new plane for the convention but hadn't added any other planes. As usual and as typical, whoever that person was did not think before typing and making a con plane doesn't require the time to make an actual model. Pyro pointed this out and said a con planes takes roughly x and a real plane takes about y hours. I don't remember the actual numbers but you could probably search and find it.

I think it was a con plane, it may have been Santa or the Great Pumpkin or something like that. Can't remember exactly.

Ok thanks, that sort of answers my question anyway, I just wondered if folks realized what they are asking for each time they request a new this or that.  I suspected that each plane type might vary in research and developement time etc etc

I wonder what their process of research for planes they add. Does any of them go and fly the real deal?

I believe when the opportunity arises they, or at least HiTech does and has some stick time in a P-51.  Don't know if anyone else at HTC flies.

My ex used to test fly broomsticks.

when I was a kid, my dad come home one night a little on the tipsy side and couldn't get the key in the door to unlock it.  My mom grabs a broom and walks to the front door and opens it, seeing my dad kind of stumbling about with a really pissed off look on her face and us kids standing behind her watching.  My dad looks up at her then at us, winks and then asks my mom "about to fly somewhere?"
