I finally bit the bullet and got myself a copy of FSX (deluxe edition, not acceleration).
Been downloading a few freebie addon aircraft but I'm finding the quality (especially of 2D and 3D cockpits) is somewhat lacking when compared to the stock aircraft.
Can anyone recommend some high quality addons for FSX?

This one seems to have some really nice ones.

Some pay companies:
CaptainSim
WilcoPub
PMDG (makes great 737s, 747s, MD11, etc)

Swoop,
Theres several sites that allow for free downloads after you pay a yearly membership fee. Others let you download but at reduced speeds.
www.simviation.com (http://www.simviation.com) - good library that was NOT down when avsim was hacked earlier last year. Lots of birds and addons.
www.avsim.com (http://www.avsim.com) - considered by many as the mother of all download sites for any version of MSFS
www.flightsim.com (http://www.flightsim.com)
www.flyawaysimulation.com (http://www.flyawaysimulation.com)
www.sim-outhouse.com (http://www.sim-outhouse.com)
www.surclaro.com (http://www.surclaro.com)
Check out www.vatsim.com if your looking to fly with live ATC. This makes the flights interesting at the very least.
There are also a bunch of groups that fly together. Im in one now that is currently flying an around the world flight in the Grumman Goose, flies sailplanes, and is working on missions that follow flightplans used for the Dambusters Raid, Operation Chowhound, and ferry flights to the various theaters of the war.
Payware aircraft are GREAT but be sure and check around the forums on the sites above before spending your money.
Let me know if I can help out!

One of my favorite paywares that I have, that I can not stop flying no matter where it is this one by wilco. It's the Bell Agusta 609

you just have to change your throttle setting to prop pitch when you fly it. This thing is so fun to fly! :rock
If they ever plan on really making it I dont know?

Simviation is a good one, every now and then you get a cull but for the most part they are really good.

The RealAir Spitfire is one of my favorites

Aerosoft has some good add-ons. I have their F-16.

Check out some of A2A Simulations Accusim planes too. If being incredibly detailed in every area is your thing, you'll enjoy these although they're not always cheap. The downside of flying their planes for me is I enjoy them so much that very few others seem worth the time. Their P-47 is incredible.
