That can be caused by a number of things.  Lack of space on the hard drive.  Bad sector on the hard drive.  Corrupt filesystem.  Bad download.

None of which are in our control.  Try donwloading the file to a new directory.  Do not remove the one causing the problem.  If it happens again, chances are where the software is trying to be installed contains a bad spot in the filesystem or opn the hard drive or you are running an anti-virus or security program that is corrupting the installation.

That would depend on the computer.  Most OEM's have thier own installation requirements for the OS installation.

You would only do that in an insane asylum. However, to downgrade from 7 to Vista (if you decide to make that incredibly dumb move) you will need to create a seperate partition for windows 7 with the disk manager tool, I forgot what the directory was, but it's something like diskmgmt.msc. Create a partition about 30GB (or larger if you need to backup stuff) in size at first, restart computer with Vista CD in, wait for it to load all its stuff, then choose the partition with nothing on it to install. Once you get into Vista, you can use the diskmgmt tool to delete or possibly combine both the windows 7 and Vista partitions. If you delete the 7 partition, choose the Vista one and just click "Expand" so you can use that HDD space. Or you could have the two partitions seperate and have yourself a dual boot system.

Looks like going back to vista there to me...

Based on your 'medieval' look, one has to wonder what all you have installed on your system.  Viruses/spyware can (aside from sabotaging your system) can also cause internet/network instability which can cause corrupt files when you download.

You need repartition your hard drive, and then try another download.. this will almost guarantee that it will be stored on a different sector.  You may also want to do a complete disc scan (including surface scan) just to make sure the hard drive is ok.
