Hi all
I remember when head to head was up, it was a great flying and fighting school, you can show and learn your near friends how to fly and fight. Also I remember why it was removed, by the abuse and hacking.
Now, with the World War One planes, the h2h would be great, almost in Local Area Network mode by the low ping connection, you will be able to fly very near to the other planes with no warps, enjoy seeing how parts of the enemy plane fails, and all in all having a lot of fun at home when your friends come at home.
How I enjoyed the h2h dogfights with my son, the two in the same room with direct voice communication, that has no price.
Is there any hope that h2h will be bring again?
Salute all.

I flew HTH for many years, and I can say without any doubt whatsoever, that it was the worst training school ever, churning out newbies that had no clue what they were doing. With FFAs going on, folks vulching nonstop, 10000x ammo multipliers, 0x fuel multipliers, F3 views enabled, lead computed gunsights (and you could TELL when they tried to HO you with the LCG, you give a micro-jink and they lurch all over trying to follow the new crosshair location), these baby seals had (for the majority) no skill whatsoever.
It taught so many bad habits and so many poor (and yes, I will say it, "pathetic") tactics that it was more detriment than help.
You will learn metric crap-loads more with a single session with a trainer than you EVER would with YEARS of HTH play. Trust me on that.
To answer the original question (and you may already know this, but better safe than sorry), HTC has said that they may bring HTH back with some other kind of setup. My guess would be the HTC servers run it rather than the local host. Nobody knows what kind of time frame they have in mind though.

I use to go into h2h whenever my gunnery was bad. Made for great target practice.
-
Actually promoted worse gunnery... no ammo limits, folks with no skill, all they did was spray from 1.2K out and held down the trigger until they "merged" (loose term), then using F3 model without ever looking around tried to spray ammo in your general direction until you killed them with minimal effort.
IMO I didn't learn decent gunnery until Warhawk's servers where they used 1x ammo multipliers and a flew a 109F. You learn to aim or you rtb fast with no ammo. It really helped. When I could get 4-5 baby seals with a single clip, I knew my aiming was getting much much better (of course this was ages past, long long ago)

Krusty, passssao never mentioned if he flew in bloated arenas. For all we know, he could have been hosting his own realistic arenas resembling an MA setup. Everyone's experience in H2H was different based on their tastes and styles. Passssao, could have been one of those rare individuals who actually used arenas such as Warhawk's to better his skills.
-
The vast vast minority ever wanted to do anything other than play with "easy mode" settings. I was one of the very few that tried hosting MA-level settings (realistic ammo, 1x or 2x fuel burn, no externals, no LCG, etc). The vast majority were dweeby arenas, and while a mindless distraction (even quake can be fun!) it really falls flat on its face when you compare it to any other way you can "learn" in aces high.
I'm not saying they had no merit at all. I'm saying they trained bad habits into pilots and left them unable to defend themselves against the average MA pilot. This was entirely in regards to his "a good place to learn" comment.

Understood. Thanks for clearing that up.

Actually promoted worse gunnery...
worked for me.

lol mine sux too.. thanks to not having h2h for years :(

The arenas only sucked if the host didn't moderate properly. I would host rooms a lot and I would always have f3 off unless I had a special request and nobody else in the room objected. At first I dialed up the ammo and dialed the fuel burn down until I learned that keeping the MA settings would attract the better players and the others would stomp off pouting. I met some quality cartoon friends in those rooms.
Having said all of that, you are right Krusty, the majority of the rooms were just horrid.
I do wish they would bring it back tho for paying players. I would een be willing to pay a little extra to have the right to host a room.

I would like to see the h2h back in new format :pray
Dear old Krusty
Your memory is short and/or selective.
In past h2h there was many 'ALL MAXXED' rooms, but there was also a sole minority of hosts, which hosted a rooms with MA and past CT/SEA settings.
Some rooms, which I still remember
IKE's mini scenario. Oh boy, I just loved the BoB setup.
Frank's co-op. Very interesting and also educating for the noobs.
PeyBeboy's(?) scenarios
Merilin's MA FFA/Team with limited ammo&fuel.
I was hosting back then a following rooms:
The FFA with limited fuel, ammo, views, stall limiter off and unpopular plane set. The room name was 'Do you have what it takes?' :rofl
The racing rooms with special made custom maps: A canyon air-racings, closed circuit vehicle racing and red bull type pylon air-racing.
Yes, the h2h was bloated by air-quake hosts, but there was a available a other kind of hosts too.

Ex, your memory may be worse.
Oh, I do recall. Just because something has a "theme" (i.e. BOB type planeset) doesn't mean the settings and the training were very hard-core. I flew in most of the rooms you described. Frank's were few, far between, and limited to running a mission or two. IKE's were more to practice working with maps and had theme planesets, but bases very close and still not MA-quality settings.
Saying "other types of hosts" were available is a laugh, as 7 days out of the week of constant checking, you might find ONE room with semi-realistic settings, and it might have had 1 person in it, and then that person (and thus the room) might have logged off within 20 minutes of you joining.
If anything, HTH was like a dumbell... It's great for a little exercise. However, no matter how well you learn to use that dumbell, it doesn't compare to using a fully equipped gym and competing in a body building contest.

Good old Krusty...
I didn't mention a training at all in my post. Anyhow the h2h people were providing that too... time to time.
The IKE was hosting a BoB mini map for shake of the max 8 person game play. MA-quality settings? LOL! Well, a way over it, because he was using a CT type of arena settings.
Your favorite h2h hosts were not up 24/7 just for you for hosts own private time & costs?! Oh dear, get a grip.
I personally was hosting mainly at the weekend nights. I often left the server open and went to sleep, when wife-ack chaff(€ €€ €€€) didn't work.
"...it doesn't compare to using a fully equipped gym and competing in a body building contest." No shyte, MA'er.

Krusty and Bronk
I'm just a curious.
Do you have a fundamental problem with the new generation h2h idea for the subscript members only?

Nope. Why would I? I had no problem with the old H2H.

OH man the memories! haha does anyone remember Xena's rooms?

She never fought me for some reason. Every time I engaged her she ran.

+1, I'd like to see this for one on one matches with a couple freinds of mine whome don't have terribly great high speed connections...
