AFAIK, dud torpedoes were a serious problems for submarines and torpedo planes.
Strangely enuff the italian built Fiume-Whitehead torpedo was probably the most reliable fish of the whole war, and the SM-79 one of the best torpedo carrier.
I dont think HTC will model torpedo failures, so I'm pretty sure they'll model the Whitehead fish, then ... the SM-79 ... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Gosh
I hope not. If I'm lucky enough to hit something with one, I hope the darn thing explodes (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I think what would be more interesting to know, is if there will be different types of torpedoes, or a single generic one for all countries as in WarBirds.
And how long until S.M.79-II arrives?!

The Japanese torps would certainly give it a run for its money. Not like those horrible American torps.
As to the title, we don't have engine failures or jamming guns, so I'd guess that we will have 100% torp reliability.

We ain't got historically dud bombs yet so I doubt it (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
The US airial (type 13's I think?) torpedos had alot better success rate then the god awful things they carried on PT boats and submarines.
Was just watching yesterday the conversions the PT boats crews went through to convert to the "drop-over-the-side" (as opposed to the air/blackpower tubes used before) aircraft torpedos, which increased success rate like 70%.
Since they did the conversions much later in the war I assume those were "improved" versions over the horrible things they carried earlier in the war (type 3's?)

As Eagler said, I hope not - with the run-in needed for torps combined with the acks laser accuracy against non-evading targets, I would really hate to make it to drop only to have a "thud" instead of "boom" from the torpedo.
Having a difference between national torpedoes would be neat, eg, IJN planes were the only ones that could carry Long Lance torpedoes.
I'll support that SM-79 (pretty neat looking, then I do think its the 3rd engine that really makes it cool) if the Beaufighter Mk X gets support votes in return (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Maybe for scenarios it would be fun to have duds and other random failures, in order to create a more realistic battle result. But in the arenas it would just be frustrating.
And yes I would like to see the SM.79... right in my Mk. II gunsight!!!

Look there u can find detailed pictures to design that bird.

Yanno the PT boats coming in 1.05 are gonna be scary I bet.
With either 20mm cannon or dual 40mm Bofors...ick.
That and the tube style torpedo's having malfunctioning rudders that makes them 180 and ram the firing boat (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
If that aspect get's modeled I'D SURELY ask for duds (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/tongue.gif)

I'd vote to see the SM.79 in AH. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
