How it is now:
Somebody asked me (a while back, actually) about my choice of colors on this skin. My answer: Basically it's wrong. At the time I did not intentionally make it that way, I just had few resources and did not know what I currently know.
I reskinned the exterior, making it overall a much better skin. I did a lot more research into the unit and Hondt's markings and came to the conclusion it had to be a red tail band based on his presence as compared to the timeline of events. He was wounded and after healing was placed in another unit, so he would not have been around at any time for the presence of the later yellow tail bands. I even found some photos of his ride (which I never found when originally skinning it).

Currently I am waiting to submit until I redo the gear, flaps, and other bits. I really don't like how they look on the A-5. I'm pretty sure I left the weathering layers off, so it's currently "clean" -- this is a work in progress picture, and a heads-up thread. I know at least one person has been waiting for this for quite some time!
P.S. Currently reworking the stripe, also. It may look a little funky.

Looks much better Krusty! :aok I notice the number 13 is in thicker font. Are there any pictures or resources on this plane that you could point to us?
-
I do have some saved to my HD that I can upload later, but not till tonight/tomorrow. It's been a while since I put that 13 on the frame, but I believe I was working directly off of a photo, so it's more accurate.

:aok

WOW :O That looks fantastic, and looks so much better than the first verison. I look forward to flying it..plus it is in the best squadron colours :rock
Keep up the good work, much appreciated :salute
I take it the red tail markings instead of yellow was before JG11 adopted yellow?
-
Yes. There may have been no stripe, but I have a photo with folks standing in front of the tail that strongly hints the shade is different from the rest of the fuselage. If there WAS a stripe, it was not yellow. I have a small excerpt from at least one book mentioning the shift to the yellow stripe, and it was after Hondt was wounded and transfered. He never would have been there after the yellow was applied.
The 2 remaining options are then "none" and "red" -- and using my own judgement based off a photo I went with "red"

Good work :aok
are there any more JG11 skins that have not been skinned yet? Im trying to find some info, but currently the only model I can find is on the 109T

I'm missing rivets in this picture :cry
-
I have a lot of layers turned off for that pic Mus. I'm pretty sure the rivets are just hiding at the moment.
It's just a thing I do when working on fresh camo. I don't let much skew my perspective. I turn off weathering, rivets, all the things that distract my eyes so that I can focus on getting the colors blended how I want (and when working on visible splashes of color like the curved red stripe), then once I'm locked in on that I bring all the other stuff back bit by bit until it's done.

Here is a picture of Hondt's machine. The way it looks Krusty, your second picture with the more blocky 13 is more accurate. Oh, and your stripe will also most likely be red.

Here is one of the pictures I found:

No work on it this weekend. Got tied up, then did a ton of stuff on my P-47N skin.

In the "cool down" time I'm giving myself for the P-47 skin I got some work done on this. I had no internet for an entire day so I did photoshop work instead!
Finished all the interior bits and details. Finished the stripe, as best I can get it.
The AH 3D shape is wrong for the Fw190s... They were a bit more like the 262 is (but not so extremely angled). They were more flat on the bottom and sloped inwards on the sides. They weren't round. Even the roundest point (the tail joint) was more of a rounded square.
So in the real war, the red shape would still be visible top-down red stripe continue, and it would make a "V" shape. In-game you can't see it past the gun cowling when looking at the top. So, despite this, I tried instead to match the feel of the stripe from a side angle.
I still have to redo all weathering and exhaust stains. The photos are relatively clean so I won't go too far with the paint scratching or chipping.
Original skin shows default interior bits, for comparison.

I've been rather busy and spent what free time I had for about a week working on a webpage redesign (which will be revealed later) for my skins page.
This weekend I got back to the 2 skins I have in production. I've added the weathering to this skin. I've added exhaust staining, some paint scratching, worn areas, and some other bits and details. I noticed upon reviewing the screenshots (here now as I post) that the white crosses may be a tad too bright. I'll lower those values a bit, and maybe bring out the weathering opacity a few % as well.
Essentially done. Will change the tweaks as mentioned above and submit unless anybody else has comments or questions.
