Title: Question about the damage mode;
Post by: oboe on March 27, 2010, 07:55:48 PM
l  was sitting in a tower today watching the field get vulched, and I thought I saw a 38 take hits resulting in an explosion but the plane kept flying briefly before nosing over and plowing into the ground, exploding again when hitting the ground.   Was I dreaming?

Could be a lag issue.

But strange nonetheless.

Sounds like the new "death".  When a pilot dies there is a small explosion then the plane spirals down to an explosion.

Isn't that only in WWI arenas?

No, This occurs with pilot kills, it's more common in the WW1 arena because the bullets penetrate the plane very easily (they're made of wood 'n' canvas, after all..)

Well bravo, HTC.   Definitely adds something to see minor explosions precede a bigger one.

There is some new stuff.  I was flying an F6F-5 last night taking out the barracks, ack and tower (in that order) at a Vbase that had just been captured from us.  While taking out the barracks I took a few minor pings from the ack.

Later I was still there spotting for the friendly GVs and noticed my left aileron was shredded but was still there and functioning.  Very cool.

I think the explosion is a left-over. Back when you used to kill the pilot they just made the plane go "boom" to remove it from the arena. Now, when the pilot is killed the plane spirals down without him.

Only, that explosion still shows up.

I think they need to tweak it to remove the "poof" on pilot kill, unless you happen to blow the fuel tanks entirely or totally obliterate the plane.

i don't know. i like the new affect. it's funny to watch the new guy's chase down the falling plane shooting at it like they are going to get a kill then wonder why they didn't evan get an assist. i laugh every time.  :lol

Yeah , that's what you're seeing Oboe. I like to new pilot kill death much better than the old one.

Until I have the misfortune of running into you...repeatedly...  :D

Anyone else notice the planes still flying around after the horizontal stabs get shot off lately? Saw a Spixteen last night get both shot off and was still making turns until someone clipped a wing off.

ahhh you didn't do so bad  :aok

I think the visual still shows both coming off, but you only actually shot one off, so you see them fly on.

no there is nothing new in the WW2 arenas

the WWI mod has over written files and screwed all sorts of stuff up, thats why u are seeing amazing deaths and damage issues, you are experiencing the WWI effects in the WW2 arena, planes that used to be good before the mod are now usless and visa versa, HTC need to get a grip and fix these issues.

Another expert speaks.  Anyone else notice any aircraft that were good are now useless?

Now that you mention it every plane I fly lately is worthless.  Might be the loose nut behind the stick bug.

Since the update, I've noticed that I (speaking solely for myself!!) seem to be having a much harder time bringing down other fighters with the F4U-1A. (caveat, that's pretty much all that I fly, so it's the only plane I'd notice "something different" about).

Obviously, there could be a million reasons besides the update - up to and including that my own flying has been very sporadic over the last 2 months which always makes for some very rusty flying and gunnery - but while I'm certainly not at a point where I believe that something has changed, I'm also not yet quite ready to dismiss a change - unexpected or otherwise - out of hand.
