In RL the roar of a Merlin just about tops evrything. Although you get the sound on computer, the RL is very much more!!!!

I say a simailar thing to people that have never seen a top fuel drag race and they try to tell me it would be boring to go to. The sound of real if is much more spectacular than anything a computer or TV could deal with.

Same thing with the Reno Air Races.. Those planes have the highest HP piston aircraft motors in the world.. There's no substitute for actually being there and hearing it for yourself..  :aok

Yeah... I liked how the pilot showed off the 190's roll rate and directional agility compared to typical war bird airshow routines.

It is.

Then WW2 190s sounded different than that. The Flugwerk  one has a Russian made engine and not the BMW engine.

yep....while i love seeing that old iron in the air, they seem to do the same things over and over.......and i do understand how much money they have wrapped up in them too.

the last time i was at the reading airshow, the p40's the hurricane, the mustangs, all did not much more than high speed passes, with a couple of big fat victory rolls at the end.

then the guy came up in the yak 9.

holy crap!! that dude flew that airplane as if the entire luftwaffe was on his tail.  :D

I do wonder how hard they push the old warbirds in air show exhibitions.  I have a feeling they aren't pushing their maneuverability anymore than they are pushing the engines.

according to the owner of the flying club i'm in, the insurance limits what they can do a lot.

there's probably someone here that can enlighten us on that better than me though.....

The farthest I've seen a warbird pushed at an airshow is this Corsair video someone posted a while back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zp-YrzjdExs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zp-YrzjdExs) Great sound too.

Those Griffon Spits have some awesome throaty goodness.

awhile back, there was a show on the military channel. they were covering a guy that was restoring an fw190. they brought an german ace out there. if i'm not mistaken, it was supposedly the same one he had to ditch or something like that, but i'm not sure.

what was truly amazing, was when they let him climb in her. you could see him going back, and the love in his eyes for his aircraft.

when he sat in the cockpit, the years just disappeared off of his face.

that to me was truly amazing to see.
