Title: best entry level joystick?
Post by: the4ork on April 07, 2010, 04:01:25 AM
i have a logitech extreme 3d pro for a few years now, but the twist rudder is starting to go out on it, im looking to buy a replacement for ~$50

is there anything better or should i just buy another? the thing has been great for me for a while, and its for my spare ah2 machine, i normally fly with a x52.

a few extra buttons couldnt hurt, must have a twist rudder tho

for that money probably buy another logitech, otherwise you might as well go for the top shelf. Maybe one of the cheaper saiteks but apples and oranges.

MS Sidewinder Prec 2 are USB and normally if I'm patient I can find them for around 30$ with shipping on Ebay.

Saitek ST- 290, Cyborg and Aviator are reasonably priced alternatives.

Trigger four buttons and scroll buttons in head of stick
Adjustable POV hat switch that can extend or contract into head of stick
6 buttons on base of stick
Dual throttle lever for control of multi-engine aircraft
Works with Windows XP XP64, Vista (all versions) and Windows 7

Thrustmaster T Flight Stick-X. Seems to hold up fairly well over the long haul.

Seriously, just about anything - up to and including an Atari 2600 joystick if you could hook one up - would be a better joystick. That one quite literally has almost half the travel in center play.

Ive been using a thrustmaster T1600 and it's been great . Between that and my X52 throttle it's been a joy to use .

I used one for 3 years and never had a damn problem with it.   It's a better stick than the Saitek X45's and X52 I used.

I still have my 4 year old logitec 3d pro.  never had problems with it.  I just replaced it because i wanted more buttons.  dead band can be set up to whatever u want.  I had none.  same as with my x52 pro.  I wanna be able to move the stick with the slightlest touch   :joystick: :joystick: :joystick:

Whoops - I didn't read the OP close enough.  I though he was referring to the Logitech Force 3D Pro . The one I bought to replace the Logitech Wingman Force had (quite literally) half of the stick travel in center play.  Coming from a stick with almost zero center play, I almost couldn't fly with it.
