Title: Film Viewer Won't Work.
Post by: lyric1 on April 08, 2010, 01:10:22 AM
I have a DELL XPS9000 It has Windows7 home premium & it was a replacement under warranty that I got back in December of last year.  I can not get the film viewer to work at all from the time I loaded the game into this PC & have no clue how to remedy it.

I waited for the current patches & that still didn't fix the problem I have dumped the game out & down loaded the game from scratch & still the problem exists. When the film will work & only for a second or two the sky is blue all the terrains are either white or all black. I took some photos of the screen showing the message I always receive. So any help will be great thanks.
Oh & Windows has never given me a solution bye the way.

A DXDIAG output would be helpful.

You clearly know better Skuzz, but didn't at one point it get mentioned you need the terrain files the film was recorded on to watch the film?  So if it was filmed on Trinity you need to have Downloaded Trinity to watch the film or the viewer crashes?

It should not crash if you do not have the terrain.  It should simply show a blank screen.

Do you want all of it Skuzzy? or is this enough? Also noticed it mentioned 32bit should it not be 64 for Windows7? Also the date & time is wrong  even though I just did it.

According to that DXDIAG output, your computer is not running Windows 7.  If it is, you posted the wrong DXDIAG output as the version that generated that output was 9.0c, which is XP.  Windows 7 uses DirectX 11, not 9.c.

Does the game work?  Do you have the terrains loaded that the film viewer needs for the film?  Is the film from a n older version of the game?  Are you running the film viewer from a desktop shortcut?

I am not sure about the terrrains being loaded? Would it not be loaded if you download the game from scratch & have that being done twice I don't know? The game works fine only issue is film viewer. No desktop shortcut is being used I just tried filming & pulled up film viewer from all programs list & it didn't work & tried a desktop shortcut just now & that won't work either. Some films are older revisions they don't work just as the ones I filmed a short time ago.

I have the same problem. I have AH setup on a separate drive and I am trying to watch new films but I am just trying to open the film viewer and I am not double-clicking a film. I have the offline terrain set to the same as the film was made on. There are no more than a half-dozen films in the film folder.

Film viewer worked up until patch 5-6 and now 7.

mine too. all was good until the patch today.

Also, my P51D in mid flight just locked up and rolled over for no apparent reason. It was like the game didn't reconize the joystick.

There be a bug about.

Also, my P51D in mid flight just locked up and rolled over for no apparent reason. It was like the game didn't reconize the joystick.

Disregard this. I'm pretty sure I missed the stick up myself.

Mine crashes as well without even choosing a film to watch.  Last week-end it was working fine so it is definately something that was just updated. I also have Windows 7 and can post the DXDiag output if needed, but I see you have a couple already.

I've got the latest patch and hires terrain loaded.  But, the film viewer stops after the initial screen comes up and says there's a problem and it needs to shut down.  I'm using Windows 7 and a desktop shortcut. Any ideas?  It was working fine before the last two patches were installed. Thanks!  :salute

Older films still crash viewer

That is not a bug.  It is due to changes in the resources for the game which can occasionally render older films unviewable.

It should not crash if you do not have the terrain.  It should simply show a blank screen.

Perhaps it would be best if the film editor warned the user using a dialog box that he/she does not have the said terrain installed, and provide instructions on how to remedy the problem.

Must be something on your end. Since a few patches ago I can even watch the old Agent 360 films that he made with the narrations.

You were right...  I did a full re-install before I posted here, with no luck.  I did it again following your post, and now I'm good to go...

Thanks!
