If you want 27 troops in a C-47 then it will have to take 27 troops to capture a base.  This is HiTech's way of evening it out.  The more troops a troop carrier carries in-game the more it will take to capture a base.  Can't remember right off where HT talked about it, but it's somewhere here....

Extra leg room.

and even 10 volunteers is hard to find. Do you know what their chances of survival are?

I think 1701E's answer is accurate I vaguely recall HT saying something to that effect somewhere sometime and I'm pretty sure I'm not imagining it.

Another question comes to mind is were those 27 troops or 27 fully loaded combat ready paratroops in full kit and how much extra space and weight do those kits take up?

You're complaining about only 10 troops in a C-47 when you don't question the fact that airfields are controlled by 1-mile square mini-towns with a maproom in the center and 10 guys jogging at a medium pace instantly "take control" of an airfield by going into the map room?

It's a gameplay concession. There has to be a limit, a structure, a rule for how the capture works. If they chose "10" troops because it was a round number, then whatever they chose is exactly 1 planeload of troops.

Meaning 1 capture per sortie. Not meant to be realistic. Meant to be gameplay-balanced.

The  reason that C-47 carried 27 troops was not a Gross weight problem, it was a bulk out problem.

What if the maximum # of troops needed to capture a base were to be increased to, say, 20 troops? That would be the same as 1 plane-load or 2 vehicle-loads. Since vehicles are more maneuverable, it would seem right to put more pressure on those that drive them. Just a theory, though. So don't go ragging on about what has already been posted.

Since "tolled" is actually a word, and is spelled correctly, how exactly would the spellcheck help in this instance?

From looking at Cooldueds post, he was suppose to write "Told" not "Tolled" unless he intended one of the following meanings. So yes, he made a spelling mistake.

"toll 2 (tl)
v. tolled, toll·ing, tolls
v.tr.
1. To sound (a large bell) slowly at regular intervals.
2. To announce or summon by tolling.
v.intr.
To sound in slowly repeated single tones.
n.
1. The act of tolling.
2. The sound of a bell being struck."

..........27 how did you get 10?

Because origionally when they asked for volunteers thats all they could get - 10 - everyone of them from OHIO. But those 10 insisted they thought they should not be dropped from a height greater than 500'.

It was pointed out to them that the chutes would not open properly at such a low altitude to which they replied :

"Oh......we get parachutes??"

<sheesh>  Ohioians!!  - by then it was too late - the seating had already been configured for "THE OHIO TEN"!!

....cheers eh! :D

Yes, 27 Troops may have fit in a real life C47, but how many would fit if each one had two coolers, and a sheep in each hand?

The thing is why does the amount of troops the carriers can carry have to be exactly the number of troops it needs to have to capture a base ('cept the jeep of course)?

Stop and think about it... if the goon were to let 15+ troops go, then killing more than 1 of the troops becomes a major event than just spraying a few MG rounds at them for the single troops kill and moving back to get the kill vs the carrier, or another attacking GV/aircraft.

I hope HTC at least considers the idea.

What about the opposite?  Just make the requirement to capture a field 14 troops.  You would need more than one troop carrier.

Sound interesting?  Would it make things more fun?  Less fun?

It carried upto 27 passengers

which equals
3 cooks
3 medics
1 parson
2 imbedded reporters
1 camera man
4 minders (for the imbedded reporters and camera man)
1 "moral" officer
1 "logistics" officer
1 field secretary
10 grunts

HTC only renders the grunts
