It would need to be worded better, but a rule to the effect of "No posting in threads that have been inactive for more than 90 days." would be welcomed - or a clarification to rule 10 that includes a similar directive if it was your intent that it cover such cases already.
One recent example -> http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,272505.msg3639719.html#msg3639719
The reason that it's seems to need it's own rule is that it's not overtly obvious when scanning the boards that some one is stirring up old brown bodily waste unnecessarily (especially if you missed the poo storm how many ever months ago) until it's once again a tempest in a teapot (because you really only see the date and time of the last post), and often, takes waaaaaay too long for it to die again for the second or third time.

I'm all for locking a thread over x-months old. If someone wants to add to it, they can start a new thread and just quote something from the old one.
-
That would be fine - except that I suspect that some when, someone might actually have a legitimate need to bring an old thread forward.
But given how often that would occur versus how often the other occurs...

Thanks for citing my one recent foray into stirring up old fecal matter. Admittedly, it was as much to just rile people up as it was anything serious. I walked into it attempting to blast the OP. What I got for my trouble was a bunch of misplaced defensiveness, imj.
I thought Skuzzy pretty well put the kibosh on that thread. I'd just as soon he did the same with this one.

No matter how eloquently you lay out the rules, you cannot stop stupid, or those who chose to remain ignorant, or those who chose to be disrespectful of the form posting rules and of HTC.
All one can do is act after the fact and hope the numpty gets it.

Skuzzy said folks were getting cranky, AND used the word numpty :rofl
No offense Skuzzy, I just found it immensely funny.
That's twice I almost pissed myself, today.
:rofl

Do you think it is an accident I express myself in the manner I do? :)

Of course not, but it's totally hilarious when you show you have a sense of humor.
That, and it's been a loooong time since I've heard anyone use the word "Numpty" :lol

Can dumb be fixed Skuzzy???? :bolt:

Maybe. How much are you willing to spend?
To fix the afflicted, that is...

With the crap you have to deal with, no.

You're welcome!
Seriously though, I didn't intend to single you out - I simply was using your recent foray as the focal point of the request. Had I waited a few days, I'm sure there would have been another example.
The biggest problem is that unless you look closely through the thread contents, you don't realize that the stuff you're seeing is 2 or 3 or 6 or 16 months old, and it simply adds confusion. As an example (ahem) there was just a series of quick updates to the game - and you brought back an old thread complaining about problems with updates. See where I'm headed?

You're charitable here. However, the truth was, I was damn well aware of exactly what I was doing - and remember the red warning banner quite vividly. I feel I was misinterpreted but I was looking to stir the crock o' scheisse. In that sense, justice was served.
I think Skuzzy's right - there's no substitute for constant vigilance (my motto in profile - latin version, in fact).
