Title: High Res Pack
Post by: vafiii on April 12, 2010, 11:38:12 AM
Not real computer savy. Should I be using the high res pack? My resolution is set at 1280 x 1024 and Max Textures at 1024. I have an NVIDIA 6200 512MB graphics card. Currently, I do not use high res pack and cannot run advanced graphics other than detailed water. Would the high res pack help or hurt me? Frame rate typically 57. Any help would be appreciated.

if you can not run other advanced graphics, then the hires pack will prob lower your frame rate

you can always try it though...... if you do not have the hi res pack downloaded and installed, I think that even though you have your Textures set to 1024, it is actually reverting back to the 512 Texture size......

someone correct me if I am wrong about this.......

what would help is if you could post your PC specs, CPU, sys Ram, PSU........ and maybe a DXDIAG report as well.......

might be able to help you tweak your system to gain some more performance out of it possibly

You won't get good results with the high res pack...I'm surprised you're running that card at 1024 textures. You should drop it down to 512 textures then check your frame rates with bump map terrain on...if it works well even in a crowd, then try detailed terrain. You may have to turn off detailed water to do it.

With the 6200 or 6100 series NVidia cards, you should have the "Maximum Texture Size" set to 256, for best performance results.  Should never consider loading the high resolution texture pack.
