Title: Lower Price?
Post by: Guymed on April 13, 2010, 04:26:08 PM
This has probably been asked many times. And I know I'm gonna get a lot of bad responses, but $15 bucks a month for just one game? It's a little extreme. $10 would be much more, you know, smart. $15 a month is more money than web hosting. And besides, it would probably get HiTech more customers. And don't whine that it would attract n00bs. Don't you remember when you were a n00b and couldn't even takeoff/roll correctly? And look at yourself now, you're level bombing bases in that Ar234 of yours by the minute. Just saying, $180 a year is a lot for a game. But, maybe, I might pay 15 bucks a month if you allowed Paypal and by the month payment (no auto renew). The sale depends on user preference. Just getting my idea out there.

~Guymed-

And no, I'm not a n00b anymore. I can level bomb, dogfight, dive bomb, fight in tanks and kill ships fine.

It used to be 30 bucks, and before that, it used to be pay-by-the-hour.

Also I don't see your deal about paypal. No one has ever been scammed by HTC, put that service record against Paypal.

I have nothing against HTC scam wise (anymore), but Paypal is easier for me.

for just one game? It's a little extreme.

Being serious though, I wouldn't say this is "just one game."  This game is significantly different than it was just a few months ago, it is constantly evolving.  How many PC games can hold someone's attention for years and year... and years, consistently?

I'm sure you've heard it before but currently you pay under $0.50 a day.  Take a constantly updated game and the fact that you can easily contact the creator of the game with questions, I'd say it's well worth $15.

Why is the current CC system hard for you?

if you can trust PayPal with your credit card you can most certainly trust HTC.  Pay up and come fly with the big dogs !

Hmm , I believe 14.95 is fairly standard for most online games, except they make you pay for the box first before you can even try.

your paying your $15 a month for the privelege to play against other dweebs on the internet.  the game itself is FREE.  Infact some people like to joust on the forum that is FREE also.

If I don't get at least one nasty PM or vox rant a month  I will be looking for a price reduction.

BTW  you can't cheat at this game either  :aok

This is some of the cheapest entertainment you can get, what do you pay for a move
7 or 8 bucks, (dollars), bowling, 3 or 4 dollars a line, golf 30 and up depending where you play,
here 3 hour 50 cents, 12 hour if you play all day 50 cents.
you do the math.
This is the best deal you could ever get.

Yep.  Other than the F2P MMO's, virtually every major P2P MMO features not only a $14.95 monthly charge but also the purchose of the retail box game for an additional $49.99 or sometimes more (if you purchase special/collector editions).  The only major MMO's that don't require a box purchase are the ones that are failing like Warhammer Online.

So for $14.95, you not only get to play online in AH but you also get the game for free.  Sure, you might think that offline AH has nothing to offer but with the addition of the mission editor and the myriad of offline missions already created by the community, the $14.95 you pay for AH is probably one of the best gaming values one can find.

Just consider yourself lucky you didn't play AW in the very early years when it was hourly and sometimes paying $12 an hour just to play.

To answer a question that came up earlier yes I believe you can have the account set so you have to call in the payment on the CC.  If I recall correctly the last time I was on the phone with Skuzzy he asked me that.

Which reminds me I owe the folks at HTC a call tomorrow. :)

Everquest - $15 a month
Everquest II - $15 a month
Planetside - $15 a month
Pirates of the Burning Sea - $15 a month
Aion - $15 a month
City Of Heros - $15 a month
Lineage - $15 a month
Star Wars Galaxies - $15 a month
Star Trek Online - $15 a month
Champions Online - $15 a month
Every major MMORPG with at monthly subscription. - $15 a month

I think $15 a month is pretty good for AH.

$15 is well worth it for what you can do and what you can learn.

Why play something else out there? Games that are played 10 hours everyday by lonely old single men, living with their parents and never had a gf ............................. ........oh wait................. err nvm.

Add up anything you pay for more than once a year and see how much you're spending.

Soda from a vending machine?
Gasoline?
Fast food?

Genie(or was it delphi? ) my highest monthly bill topped out near $1,200.00 total for ISP, Hrly Play, etc..... needless to say, the wife only allowed me to play for about 3 months and it was over

then came AirWarrior on AOL
only got near $795.00 one month on AOL, before they changed the price, think it went from like $2.00 an Hr to Free? or something like that...... then it was all downhill from there.....

Nope, they take it for granted, as i have.
This is more than just a game to some. It's a hobby an escape from real world troubles or just hanging with good fellas. It is well worth 15 a month. IMO its worth way more than that.

I was on Genie and I remember my monthly bills being around the $700 mark and had to use my student loans to help pay the bill.  Thank Jeebus AW4W appeared on AOL not long after and I was able to restart my addiction at a far lower cost.

15- 20$ a month for hardware, if you save it will in 3 years buy you a new computer.

ISP  will run from 15$ a month on up. My DSL bill is almost double that.

You can't buy much of a boxed game for less than 50$, if its good it may last you a month.
Unless its really good in a couple of months you'll stop playing it.

AH costs 15$ a month, is free to download and try.
50 cents a day. If you think thats too expensive you need to get a job.
And start paying your share of the bills around the house.

I need to disagree on the second part here. Yes most games that are good will stay in the 50-60 dollar range but many of these games will hook you for months on end and if played online they will hook you for more time... along with this all these good-great games will whisper in your ear at night until 3 months after dropping it you have this desparate NECESSITY to go back and play it again...

In the 5 years of playing, I have had the inconvience of having to call HTC twice to restart my membership, once that my card was stolen, and the other the card was expired. It would truley suck if every month I go to log in and cant because my payment is due. btw..you DO have the option of paying month to month I think**
As far as the $10.00/mo being reasonable, I dont buy it.  I have the honor of giving my cable co. 5$/mo just to have a remote. $15 a month for a package I hardly watch because when I do have the time, nothing interesting is on.
Here you get the gaming experience, the chance to do it with a bunch of friends and a channel (200) that always has some good drama flick playing 24/7 :D
$15.00 is not bad really

Before AH, I was absolutley hooked on MOH. Took me a while and got my $$$ worth playing singleplayer and then dabbled in the multiplayer arena.
There I decided to pay 15.00/mo to play on a dedicated server that would gaurantee me a spot in the public arena that would only support a limited amount of 'non' paying members. The amount of hacks that would come on was unimaginable. Spawning in only to get shot with the wallhacks 2 seconds, People jumping off the screen..it was disgusting. I find that to be the reason most of my past multiplayer addictions to be gathering dust right now.
Ive stayed with AH because its stable. Aside from the next to nothing lag issues I have experienced with other players, we have a VERY close community compared to other games and I enjoy that the most.

Hell, I'd pay $30 a month or more, if HT could work in some of the stuff talked about on these BB's, but 15 is pretty cheap for what ya get, no doubt... At least till ya get bored with it!

I keep comin back, so do many others, even after months or yrs away... They must be doing something right...
There are some things that are, IMO, way overdue tho.. They know, and I'm sure they'll get around to them, eventually...

AGREED!

Hell, I'd pay $30 a month or more, if HT would not allow children or new people on the BBS, nor allowed to talk ingame.

Airflyer, I thought the ol' lineprinter art was gone forever, thanks for your post. Now, where's that old copy of #Babydoll I stashed away back in 1971 . . . ?

Simba, you're full of surprises- come on back to AH2 sometime and meet the new guys.  You'd be surprised at how much things have changed!

Ok 321bar, I'll bite, Name the games  that keep dragging you back in again and again?

Granted most people will find 1 or 2. For me its Fallout 3, but do enlighten us.

Fallout 3, CoD series, MoH pacific assault, Company of Heroes, World in Conflict, the old C&C games, Sim City, the Mechwarrior Series, Civilization, and the Age of Empires series... i can think of others in time...
Edit: i'm not saying all of these will hook me with online play by the way...Some are even great offline

No they all cost 40 - to 60$, some had extra DLC content that costs even more to get. (Fallout 3)

My question is 321, which of those are you currently playing every day? Or at a minimum of say 4 times a week?

And for how long?

You have to play that boxed game  for more than 4 months before its a better deal than AH at 15$ a month.
How many people actually do that?

Think before u compare u need to ask yourself if it is worth $15 a month.  If u get your money's worth , then it is.  True cost for me is closer to 100.  But I think it's worth it.  Sometimes frustrating as hell but....

$15 a month works out to about 25cents an hour for me which is a cheap price for having fun and talking to all the players from all parts of world.

Well I remember way back when............   I used to pay 25 cents for the 5 to 10 minute pleasure of Galaga.  55 seconds on a bad game once.  But you kids don't remember the 80's.....  It was a time when your parent's were taking acid and accidentally making you.........

Haha this is just cheeky, if the game was $1 a month some people would still ask for 50c a month human nature I guess? The monthly fee at the moment is hardly a huge price for the best and HTC isn't a huge faceless corporation making millions a year. Just really cheeky lol  :lol

You mistaking the era, it was the 60s and 70s that did the acid.  The 80s was pot and cocaine.

$15 dollars/mo is a fair price to me but I can see how it is just a little bit too much for some.  If HTC felt they would attract enough players to make it economically feasible to lower the price, don't you think they would?  Say they have 6000 active accounts right now.  If they lowered the price from $15 to $10 they'd be losing 6000*5 = 30,000/mo.  To make up that 30,000/mo they would need 30,000/10 >3000 players to sign up for the game.  I don't think the player base would increase by 33% by lowering the game's monthly price by $5 which is what would have to happen to make it a good idea.

-1 on poorly thought out idea.

I think the acid is clouding his memory, or was it the crack?  :headscratch:  Who knows, I wasn't there!

$15 bucks to keep me occupied and not going out getting drunk, running from the law, finding my next ex wife and such is just fine with me.  Never had any problems with compromised info either.

This thread needs to be locked because it is just stupid to entertain the idea of lowering the price of a game who's price is perfect the way it is.

Please stop with the ridiculous comments of wanting to lower the price.
