New season of Deadliest Catch started last night. Just wondering if anyone likes this show.
Starting off good. Two skippers fighting, crewman switching boats ,and a pwn pwn. No coast guard yet though.
-
Love it, wondering what they will do when the come up on Captain Phil's passing.
-
Love DC ! Kinda sad watching it knowing Capt Phil will die.
-
Yeah It's alright. But what I'd like to know is why is that and the logger show on History channel? Wtf does that stuff have to do with history? That just buggs me for some reason. :lol
-
I think its on the discovery channel...
-
didnt the one captain die? or was that whale wars?

I do like AX Men though, a helluva lot more interesting than Ice Road Truckers

Yeah that was Deadliest Catch. He hard a heart attack I think.

Yea Capt Phil of the Cornelia Marie passed from a stroke, He had been fighting blood clots since last season

One of my favorite shows and the only "reality" show I watch. I spent a lot of time on The Aleutian Chain Gang when I was in the Coast Guard.
My favorite ship is Time Bandit and the Hillstrand brothers. Andy and Johnathan are 2 guys I'd buy a beer just to listen to their sea stories. :rock

Hardcore Northwestern Sig Hansen fan here. I swear he can smell the crab.
Been watching to see whats going to happen with Capn Phil.
Kieth on the wizard got what he had coming to him.
He's been proddy for the last 2 seasons.
Setting pots on top of other guys strings, etc.
-
Im thinking of hiring another guy with the name DOn, and starting a plumber's reality show, and call it "Crack of Don"
-
:rofl

Great show. I think Murray(the engineer) took over to finish the seasson and the boys didnt finish the season(obviously). I think that is how it played out.
-
love the show. Captain Phil was probably my second favorite behind Sig.
Now a question. Do yall think the shows producers had any influence on the switching of deckhands?
-
Well yes and no.
I remember sig and phil talking at the end of last season about "switching" jakes.
I think phil knows that if he doesn't separate his boys, one is going to end up seriously hurt or dead.
Considering that both restart at the bottom and have to work their way up again.
It will likely be good for both of them.
I know Sig won't put up with little Jake's BS like Phil does.
The producers obviously think it will make good TV.
But I think it might have happened even if the TV camera's were not there.
Brothers working the same boat is always going to be tough.
Jake blows so much smoke, will say anything, then immediately turn the tables once your back is turned.
I think both Sig and Phil figure the 2 Jakes are too big for their britches and that this will bring them down a peg.
Should make for interesting watching this season.

Just one more piece of proof that modern man is stupider than our ancestors. Pretty soon there won't be anything decent to watch, just junk pseudo reality and sex...
-
Don't give away too much as it is on the DVR to watch this weekend. Wasn't it Jake that just got busted out in Washington for a DUI???

No they didn't. The two Captains wanted to "put up or shut up" on the "cockiness/worth your salt" from the Jakes.

That's my concern for this season along with my friend who watches hte show with me, I'm hoping it'll be one or two really good episodes dedicated to the event and remembering him, at most. I fear the show using it to help float the season along by using the unfortunate event as "filler" for half this season's episodes. He should be remembered, tribute should be paid, but i'm hoping it won't be overplayed to the point that I feel they're disrespecting his memory by not mostly moving forward with a strong stride.
Last season they almost killed me with how much they overplayed and kinda glorified one event that, boiled down and seeing past the editing of the show, was an idiotic mistake by a lazy skipper that didn't have the commen sence to have the crew batten down the hatches (put on a tarp in this case) BEFORE charging into the thick of a heavy storm... and he almost got his crew killed! I'm sure some disagree with me on my opinion of that event, but I argue that any "sea survival" technique that starts off with "Now when the storm starts to pick up, I'm gonna send you guys out onto the deck..." hasn't had more intelligent thought put into it than one's desire to scratch an itch on their behind. Last season when that skipper first pitched his idea and before we got to seeing the almost disasterous results, the responce I had in my head was "sh!@, why not just leave your pots lying around on the deck unstacked and unsecured before the last second too?", it seemed like just as intelligent an idea to me.
On the Jakes, I think Phil was the one last season who first said or responded to a question the camera/producer pitched while they were alone on the bridge that he thinks it would be a great idea if one of his sons got some experience working on another boat, but that he didn't know which one or how to even pitch it (had a hint of "they're my boys, I've never played favorites"). I think after that the producers did some proding/snooping, and then pitched the idea and let Phil and Stig stew on it for a little bit before one decided the time was right to just do it (because once they made up their minds, the exchange was made and paperwork signed in less than 24-hours, lol).

Thats pretty much what i figured too. I figured that the producers had some input, but the decision rested with the skippers as it should be.
